Gov. Er Ejercito Not Aiming To Be No. 1 Filmfest Topgrosser But Just Pays Tribute To Aguinaldo In 'El Presidente'

GOV. ER EJERCITO is officially billed in “El Presidente, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo Story and the First Philippine Republic” (must be the lonfgest title in local film history) as Jeorge Estregan. Is this to distinguish his being an actor from his being Laguna governor? Jeorge Estregan is also obviously a tribute to his late dad, George Estregan.

Judging from the film’s various trailers, they obviously spent so much for the film’s production design, costumes, sets and props to make it all look authentic Spanish regime and turn of the century. We hope they’ll be able to recover their investment and be a box office hit.

“We’re not naman aiming to be the number one topgrosser,” says Jeorge. “Ang goal ko lang when I did this is to pay tribute to Gen. Aguinaldo who’s the first president of our republic. Sana lang, suportahan ng mga kababayan natin as this is really for them, para makita nila ang mahahalagang kaganapan in our history like the election sa Tejeros Convention, the Pact of Biak na Bato, the Treaty of Paris, the executions of Andres Bonifacio and Gen. Antonio Luna, the writing of the Philippine Constitution, the making of the Philippine Flag and the National Anthem, all of them properly researched kaya lahat ng staging dito are very truthful to facts. Watching all these important historical events will make you proud to be a Filipino so the Dept. of Education is endorsing this.”

Directed by Mark Meily (whose “Crying Ladies” and “Baler” are past Metro filmfest winners), this was filmed using Dolby Digital Sound and in Technicolor, executed in Thailand to insure good technical quality. It also has two theme songs, ‘El Presidente’ composed and sang by Apple D’App of Black Eyed Pieas and “Aking Inang Bayan” by Pagsanjan Mayor Maita Ejercito.

“The film runs for nearly three hours pero hindi kayo maiinip as it’s also very entertaining,” adds Jeorge. “All my co-stars, from Cesar Montano as the Supremo and Christopher de Leon as Antonio Luna to Nora Aunor and Cristine Reyes as my first and second wives all deliver excellent performances. We’re all so proud of our movie at alam naming hindi kami mapapahiya rito.”

“El Presidente” will have its premiere night tomorrow at SM Mall of Asia.
