Manunuri And Academician Gigi Alfonso Directs Her First Full Length Film In 'Flames Of Love'

DIRECTOR GIGI JAVIER ALFONSO, who debuts as a full length filmmaker in “Flames of Love”, is concurrently the Chancellor of the UP Open University and a bonafide member of the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino who gives out the annual Urian Awards. She’s a good friend.

Our late wife, Victoria, was the vice chancellor of UP Open U when she lost consciousness after a lecture on the UP Centennial on January 31, 2008 in Los Banos. Gigi made sure Vicky got the right medical supervision at the Los Banos Doctors Hospital until we got there with our eldest son. Then she helped made arrangements for Vicky to be transported to UP PGH and get the services of the best neurosurgeons in the country. She was with us all the way, never leaving us even during the three day wake at Sta. Maria della Strada.

Our family will never forget her and her staff at UP Open U for all their help throughout that ordeal that’s still vividly etched in our mind.

We’re glad Baby Nebrida of Gold Barn Media gave Gigi the chance to direct her first film feature, “Flames of Love”, which is about family and faith. It’s an inspirational movie with a topnotch cast headed by Christopher de Leon, Dina Bonnevie, Lani Mercado, Ricky Davao, Allen Dizon, Rina Reyes, and many more, with Valerie Concepcion in the most challenging role of her career as a sinner who gets redeemed in the end. It opens tomorrow in theaters nationwide. Those who deplore the superficiality of most local films today should support this meaningful inspirational film that opens nationwide tomorrow.
