SOSY PROBLEMS from GMA Films is one of the more interesting and star-studded entries in the coming Metro-Manila Filmfest. It was first titled “Conyo Problems” but this was disapproved because the word conyo in Spanish has an obscene connotation, so it was changed to ‘Sosy Problems’.
Sosy comes from the word ‘sosyal’, a derogatory word that makes fun of vain people who are pretentious in trying to show that they’re high class and think they’re opposite of the hoi polloi or masa in this Third World Country of ours. They also speak in Taglish.
As such, the movie is a comic satire on the foibles and the pretenses of these people who try hard to be very sosyal or sosy. For instance, when you see someone wearing designer clothes or with designers shoes and bags, you: ‘Uy, you’re so sosy” or “Sosing-sosy ka naman.”
Directed by Andoy Ranay, who helmed the very successful soap “One True Love” of Alden Richards, “Sosy Problems” stars four sexy young women who represent the upper strata of our society: Heart Evangelista as Claudia, Rhian Ramos as Lizzie, Bianca King as Danielle and Solenn Heussaff as Margo. Their leading men are Aljur Abrenica, Mikael Daez and Benjamin Alves.
“We had so much fun shooting the film,” says Heart. “Talagang nag-bonding kami nang husto and we share each other’s secrets. The movie is a lot of fun and I’m sure some pasosyal people will recognize themselves in the characters we portray.”
Three of them have their own BF’s off cam. Heart is with Sen. Chiz Escudero, Rhian with KC Montero and Solenn with her Argentinian BF named Nico. Only Bianca is loveless at the moment, having just broken up with Dennis Trillo. We heard she’s glad that Heart, Rhian and Solenn were on hand to console her while she’s nursing a broken heart.
The powerhouse cast of “Sosy Problems” includes Ruffa Gutierrez, Roderick Paulate, Cherie Gil, Agot Isidro, Mylene Dizon and Robert Arevalo.
