Derek Ramsay Excited With New Show 'Kidlat' But Would Rather Not Talk About His Lovelife

DEREK RAMSAY became one of 2012’s most controversial stars when he decided to leave ABS-CBN and moved to TV5 then he broke up with Angelica Panganiban after being together for six years. How would he describe the start of 2013 for him?

“Peaceful naman,” he says at the launch of his new action-fantasy show, “Kidlat”. “I can’t complain. I’m happy with my career, my family, my life. Big hit naman yung last movie kong ‘A Secret Affair’. I’m now currently building my dream house in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, so busy ako supervising that.”

Is he happy with the way his career is going on TV5? “Oo naman. ‘Amazing Race Philippines’ got very positive feedback and I enjoyed my work covering the Olympic Games in London. Siempre, laging may detractors, like those who say hindi naman ako nakita sa London. But it’s meant to be that way. Hindi naman ako nagpunta doon as an artista but we’re there to support our athletes so nasa kanila ang focus, not on me. I guess you really just can’t please everyone. What I appreciate with TV5 is that they really consult me on what I want to do. Yung projects na babagay talaga sa’kin, like ‘Kidlat’, which is about a superhero and I really want to try playing one.”

Is he pleased with the TV movie of “Kidlat” shown yesterday on TV5 and the pilot episode that starts tonight after the TV5 news, “Aksyon”? “Oh yes, happy ako. Enjoy ako doing it. I’m having so much fun. Our director, Mike Tuviera, is very good and he’s leaving no stone unturned to make sure the public will find each episode of the show to be exciting and entertaining. I trust him and all the staff very much. We’re confident viewers will be pleased with our show and we have a winner. This is an original Filipino superhero, not a remake or copied from anything. Even the guys who did ‘X-Men’ in Hollywood are very pleased with it so they agreed to design my costume for the show.”

How does he find his co-stars: Christopher de Leon as his mentor, Nadine Samonte and Ritz Azul as his leading ladies and Baron Geisler as co-star?

“It’s a great honor to be working with a distinguished actor like Sir Boyet de Leon. Nadine and Ritz are both great to work with. Si Baron naman, I consider him as my new little brother who I’m helping to guide right now dahil masyado siyang kontrobersyal. He’s really a good actor. Kasama rin namin sina Wendell Ramos, Jay Manalo and Assunta de Rossi. Puro sila magagaling kaya masarap katrabaho.”

How about his love life? It’s common knowledge Angelica is now very much into John Lloyd Cruz. As for him, rumors say he’s now going steady with a girl named Alexa. “I’m dating someone but I’d rather not talk about her. It’s better to keep such things private na lang para tahimik at baka ma-jinx pa.”
