IT’S THE FIRST time that the press was invited by any network to a trade launch and TV5’s Go5! proved to be a show of force and numbers. They introduced all their forthcoming shows, including new soaps like “Minsan May Isang Ina”, “Limang Daliri ng Diyos”, “Love of My Life”, “You are My Destiny”, “Silay” (set in Negros). It seems now that Willie Revillame’s show is moving to the noontime slot, they need more soaps to compete directly with the soaps of GMA-7 and ABS-CBN.
Almost all the stars of TV5 paraded on stage in a roll call. The finale was understandably Ate Guy who stars in “Never Say Goodbye” that starts airing on January 28. Sharon Cuneta was not physically presented but recorded a videotape greeting for the advertising and press people who attended the affair, urging them to support TV5’s new shows.
The big stars who were absent were Cesar Montano (who’s shooting “Turning Cradle” that he himself directs) and Aga Muhlach (who’s in Bicol where he’s running as congressman).
Among the stars who hosted various portions were Edu Manzano (who’s joining ‘Good Morning Club’ of Tin Bersola, Chiqui Roa and Amy Perez starting January 21) and Paolo Bediones, Arnel Ignacio and Tuesday Vargas (who did a sprightly song and dance act introducing more new shows), Ruffa Gutierrez and Derek Ramsay, Wendell Ramos and Gelli de Belen, Joey de Leon (who’ll host ‘Hayop sa Galing’), Alice Dixson and Lucy Torres, and Luchi Cruz Valdes (who introduced the new news and public affairs show). Benjie Paras with brothers James and Phil Younghusband introduced the new sport shows on AKTV and Hyper. It’s obvious James is much handsomer and has a better physique than Phil. Most writers believe he’d have a better chance of making it in showbiz than Phil.
For Willie’s new show, “Wowowillie”, they showed the changes being made at TV5’s Delta Theatre to make it a high-tech studio for the show. They have new dressing rooms, new galleries that can seat up to 1,000 studio audiences), a new stage and new technical facilities.
