Why Mayor Herbert Bautista Gave Randy Santiago The Chance To Helm His First Movie

WHY DID MAYOR Herbert Bautista allow Randy Santiago to direct his comeback film as a producer, “Raketeros”, when Randy has not megged a full length film before?

“I believe in his talent,” he says. “When we did ‘Ninja Kids’, the director was his late dad, Pablo Santiago, but he made Randy block and direct many scenes at nakita kong kaya na niya.”

“Nakapagdirek na ako sa TV ng comedies like ‘Aalog-Alog’ and ‘Pare Koy’ sa ABS,” says Randy. “I’m really thankful to Mayor Herbert for giving me the chance to direct sa movies now. Magkasama kaming buuin ang story nitong ‘Raketeros’ with Ogie Alcasid and Dennis Padilla.”

The taste of viewers in comedy now has definitely changed with Vice Ganda. Are they ready to forget 80s and 90s slapstick humor to please today’s audiences? “Definitely, we’re aware of that,” says Randy. “Even in Hollywood, our peg is the likes of ‘The Hangover 1 and 2’ kasi iba na nga ang comedy ngayon.”

Still at the “Raketeros” presscon, we asked Ogie if it’s true he’s leaving GMA-7 to move to TV5? “Naku, hindi ko alam yan. You ask my manager, si Leo Dominguez, kung anong balak niya for me. As of now, basta busy ako sa ‘Raketeros’ at sa rehearsal ng Valentine concert namin ni Regine with Martin and Pops, ‘Foursome’, na itatanghal sa SM Arena on February 14. Wala sa consciousness ko ang mga lipat-lipat.”
