Amalia Fuentes To Make A Comeback In The Title Role Of Elwood Perez' 'Proserpina De Manila'

HER RIVAL AS 1960s movie queen, Susan Roces, remains active in showbiz, doing hit teleseryes like “Babaeng Hampaslupa” and “Walang Hanggan”. So we’re glad that Amalia Fuentes is now also making a showbiz comeback in the indie film to be directed by her friend Elwood Perez, who helmed her before in such films as “Puede Ako, Puede Ka Pa Ba” (with her ex-husband Romeo Vasquez in 1976) and “Isang Gabi, Tatlong Babae” (1974). Elwood’s last movie was “Lupe” for Viva, the launching film of Andrea del Rosario in 2003. Amalia’s last movie was “Reputasyon” for Regal in 1997, directed by the late Joey Gosiengfiao, a good friend of Elwood.

Elwood’s project for her is “Proserpina de Manila”, where she’ll play the title role, an entry to the Sineng Pambansa National Filmfest 2013 featuring various other old time directors, produced by the Film Development Council of the Phils (FDCP) and to be shown exclusively in SM Cinemas in September this year. Let’s see if this would lead the way for Amalia to also accept teleseryes like Susan does.
