Dion Ignacio Is Leading Man Material But His Career Won'T Take Off

DION IGNACIO was only 17 when he became a Starstruck 1 finalist 9 years ago. We remember one newshen predicted then at the launch of Starstruck finalists that Dion is the one most likely to hit it big as he’s 6 feet tall and has clean cut good looks. But up to now that he’s 26, full stardom seems to elude him even if he has played lead roles in two GMA afternoon soaps, “Saan Darating ang Umaga” with Yasmien Kurdi (who has since gotten married and now a mom) and the recent “Magdalena” with Bella Padilla. Why so?

“Hindi ko rin po alam,” he says. “But I’m thankful to GMA kasi tuloy-tuloy naman ang trabaho ko. Okay lang naman sa’kin maging support, character actor, basta wag akong mawalan ng show. Kamukha ngayon, wala pang follow up show for ‘Magdalena’ but I’m now doing two movies sa GMA Films, ‘My Lady Boss’, with Richard Gutierrez and Marian Rivera, and the horror film, ‘Basement’, with other GMA young stars. I play Marian’s brother in ‘My Lady Boss’, directed by Jade Castro. Sa ‘Basement’, corrupt security guard naman ako dooon sa hospital basement na magiging biktima ng isang mysterious killer. I’m so happy to have worked with Direk Gina Alajar in ‘Magdalena’. I really learned so much from her. Ang dami kong dramatic scenes sa show at ang lagi niyang advice sa’kin is not to act it out but just to feel it. Kailangan, maramdaman mo talaga ang role at ang eksena for you to be effective and it helped me a lot.”
