Meet Timmy Pavino, A Promising 'Kanta Pilipinas' Contestant Who'S A Balikbayan From Seattle

Another promising "Kanta Pilipinas" contestant we talked to is Timmy Pavino, 22, who’s born and raised in Seattle, USA. He’s the only son of his mom and dad but he has half-siblings from both sides. “All in all, I have 7 brothers and sisters, all older than me,” he says.

How come he speaks fluent Tagalog? “I’m fond of watching local films and TV shows and singing Tagalog songs. Lagi rin akong nagbabakasyon dito sa Manila to visit my dad’s mom.”

Composer Cecille Azarcon is his aunt and he took voice lessons with her since he was 6. He has joined “American Idol” and got to the 2nd round. Two years ago, he came home for good to take care of his paternal lola. “My dad has died na and she lives alone. She had a stroke and at 87 years old, wala siyang kasama sa bahay so I volunteered to take care of her. While here, I auditioned sa ‘Kanta Pilipinas’ and I’m lucky nakuha ako.”

His powerful rendition of “Go the Distance” from “Hercules’ really impressed a lot of writers. “Kanta Pilipinas” starts airing tonight at 9 PM on TV5.
