ROCCO NACINO is honored to be chosen to play the role of a mayor in GMA News TV Channel 11’s “Bayan Ko”, a timely and socially meaningful drama that tackles valid issues such as corruption, bureaucracy, malnutrition, illegal logging and political dynasties.
“’Bayan Ko’ aims to be an eye-opener for our people,” says Rocco. “Ipapakita rito hindi lang ang mga kabulukan ng tao sa gobierno kundi ang pagkukulang natin bilang mamamayan dahil hinahayaan natin ang mga tiwaling sitwasyon sa ating bayan. I really hope it will help viewers and voters in making decisions lalo ngayong nalalapit na naman ang national elections sa Mayo.”
This is GMA News TV’s first original series and most ambitious project to date. Inspired by the social realist films of director Lino Brocka, Rocco plays newly elected Mayor Joseph Santiago who sets out to make a difference in the fictional town of Lagros. The idealistic Mayor faces obstacles at every turn. He must learn to lead lazy and uncooperative municipal employees, change the mindset of a mendicant populace and stand up to a powerful dynasty led by patriarch Governor Antonio Rubio. Also in the cast are Ping Medina (Pen’s son) as a corrupt congressman, Mercedes Cabral as a powerful contractor, LJ Reyes as the Mayor’s Chief of Staff, and Betong Sumaya and Love Anover as slacker municipal employees. Directed by Adolfo Alix Jr., produced by Eliza Zamora Solis, written by Rodolfo Vera and created by GMA News TV channel head Nessa Valdellon, “Bayan Ko” air on March 10, Sunday, 6:30 PM.
