Director Joel Lamangan Thanks Migz Zubiri For Sending Their Scholars To College

DIREK JOEL LAMANGAN, as president of Nagkakaisang Manggagawa ng Pelikulang Pilipino (NMPP), hosted lunch to thank senatoriable Migz Zubiri for financing the college education of 15 students who are the children of poor workers in the local film industry, like crewmen and stuntmen.

“As we all know, maraming nawalan ng trabaho ng bumagsak ang ating film industry,” says Joel. “Marami sa mga anak nila ang hindi na makapagpatuloy sa pag-aaral but because of Migz Zubiri’s support, hayan, nakatapos na sila ng four year course like business administration, masscomm, HRM, information technology and film courses. Ang iba sa kanila, may mga trabaho na ngayon so we really want to thank Migz for his support.”

In his message, Migz congratulated the 15 students: Jennifer Manlutac, Joan Guevarra, Dave Gabad, Christine and Victor Paloma, Dickson So, Vincent Nota, Rosee Riyos, Lara Bahian, John Magcamit, Rolly Ruta, Sailit Toporcadillo, Pamela Riego, Bryan Daguyo and Ramon Esperanza.

“You’ve overcome significant obstacles in your life and you are now ready to venture into a new stage of your journey,” says Migz. “But you must not forget to help your other siblings and improve the quality of life of your family as you become more responsible members of our society.”

Migz donated a total of P2.5 million to NMPP, an NGO helping deprived workers in the movie industry. Direk Joel says Migz is also helping industry workers to have their own house through the Pag-ibig Fund and National Housing Authority. “Marami kasi, nakatira na lang sa sementeryo dahil ni wala silang pambayad ng renta,” he adds.

He’s happy that “The Bride and the Lover” which he directs for Regal finally had its last shooting day last Monday after nine months of filming. He’s now all set to start his entry in the Film Development Council’s Master Series, “Lihis”, a story about homosexual lovers in the NPA written by Ricky Lee. It stars Jake Cuenca and Joem Bascon (as the lovers who’ll have a hot gay love scene), Lovi Poe, Isabelle Diaz and Gloria Diaz. We thought it’s Baron Geisler who’d be paired with Jake Cuenca? “E, di ba nagwala na naman daw, so pinalitan na lang namin.”
