And then came this hullabaloo about her parents denouncing her BF Sen. Chiz Escudero for being “bastos”. Chiz reportedly asked his driver to get all of Heart’s clothes from her condo unit, which is near that of her own parents. Heart’s dad, Rey Ongpauco, and the driver came into blows. Heart’s mom also said that Chiz drinks a lot and is the instigator who makes “sulsol” to Heart to break away from her parents.
Heart issued her own statement and it’s very obvious that she’s siding with Chiz: “This also happened when I was with Jericho Rosales. I gave in to my parents’ wishes then because I wanted them to be happy. Because I am the youngest in the family, my parents became overprotective which is totally understandable. At that time, I was still young and thought it wise to obey their wishes. But now that I am 28 years old, I believe I already have the right to decide how to live my life, who to love and to be with. Having said that, I am issuing this statement to set the record straight and to correct whatever inaccuracies that might have been said. Despite this incident, I still believe in my family, and the love and respect I have for my parents remain undiminished. We will find a way to fix whatever needs to be fixed, and we shall come out of this stronger and wiser. Chiz and his family have shown me nothing but goodness and affection. There is no reason for them to get dragged into this and I thank Chiz for his love and continuing support. Everyone deserves to be happy, and I am now at the point in my life where I am very happy. It is my wish and prayer that my loved ones would be happy for me as well. And to those who may be plotting to use this incident as an issue in the political campaign, please don’t. It is already a painful episode for me and my loved one as it is, don’t take advantage of the situation for political gain. Thank you.”
As for Chiz, when asked about his being “bastos”, all he said was that he was raised by his parents with good breeding. “Hindi ako showbiz. Hindi ko pinaghahalo ang trabaho ko at personal kong buhay at lalong hindi ko papayagang na manghimasok ang personal kong buhay sa trabaho ko. Kahit nadadamay ako, ayaw kong manghimasok sa di pagkakaunawaan ng isang anak at kanyang mga magulang.”
