WE NOTICE that Cristina Decena, ex-wife of comedian Ariel Villasanta, has dropped the Decena from her name in the TV commercial she did for Manila Pest Control (Mapecon) and now uses Cristina Castillo. “That’s my real family name,” she says. “Decena is sa first husband ko, but since matagal na rin kaming hiwalay, I decided to use my maiden name.”
Although her marriage to Ariel didn’t last long, she became attached to his mom, the late Mommy Elvie, for whom she produced a TV show, “Mommy Elvie @ 18” that ran for 3 seasons. “She really became a second mom to me. Lagi kong tinatawagan at nagkukuwentuhan kami. When she died, masakit talaga for me. One time, naalala ko pa siyang tawagan, but then I realized wala na nga pala siya at bigla akong napaiyak. As a tribute to her on Mother’s Day, yung footage na nakunan na namin for the 4th season, ipapalabas namin to show her courage while fighting cancer nang hindi man lang nagko-complain. This is ‘Mommy Elvie, A Mother’s Day Special’, to be shown at 11AM this Saturday, May 4, sa GMA News TV Channel 11.”
Does she have any communication with Ariel? “Totally, wala na. But nagkita kami noong last night ng wake ni Mommy Elvie at civil naman kami sa isa’t isa. For the special tribute to Mommy Elvie, pumayag naman siya to be a part of it at nagpa-interview pa siya. Friends naman kami, pero wala nang balikang magaganap. I’ve moved on. Happy na ko sa buhay ko ngayon with my children. Sila na lang at ang businesses ko ang priority ko.”
Before Ariel, she was linked to Phillip Salvador and it also ended badly. “It’s exactly 10 years ago,” she says. “Napatawad ko na siya.”
Does she have any suitors now? “Meron. May taga-showbiz pa. Pero ayoko na. Pasong-paso na ko, dalang-dala na, lalo na sa taga-showbiz. If ever iibig ako uli, siguro sa gaya ko na lang na negosyante. But pahinga muna ko. Next time, I’d be more careful. Yun ang natutunan ko, hindi dapat magmadali. Pag-aralan munang mabuti. Gusto ngang i-feature ng GMA ang personal story ko in one of their shows pero ayoko. Kasi may mga taong lalabas na masama. Kawawa naman ang mga anak ko, e friends na rin kami ng ex-husband ko now.”
In June, she’ll go into TV hosting in a new show, “I Do”, which will feature unique weddings and true love stories. “Abangan nyo kasi kakaiba ito. Maraming makukuhang insights about relationships. Sa GMA News TV Channel 11 rin ipalalabas.”
