SARAH GERONIMO is now a mentor in ABS-CBN’s newest reality show, “The Voice of the Philippines”. At its presscon, we first congratulated her for the huge success of “It Takes a Man and a Woman” (P300 million at the tills and counting) which worked mainly because of her hilarious performance as the jologs girl from Marikina, Loida Magtalas, who returns from a two-year stay in New York now speaking English with an American accent. What can she say now that the fans of her love team with John Lloyd Cruz are now clamoring for another sequel.
“As Lloydie himself said, we’d only do it if we’d get a script as good as that of ‘It Takes a Man and a Woman’. Kasi as it is, kumpleto na ang story. Ikinasal na kami sa ending,” she says.
But she’s going to work in the U.S. and Miggy will follow her, so we won’t be surprised if their next film would be “Loida and Miggy sa America”. About “The Voice”, how did she feel to be with Lea Salonga, Bamboo and Apple de Ap as her co-mentors?
“Sobrang intimidated ako. Kung alam nyo lang ang kabog ng dibdib ko when I learned about it. Dinaraan ko na lang sa biro na pa-Ingles-Ingles kahit I’m nosebleeding. But malaki talagang karangalan na mapasama ako sa kanila as I’m their fan. I was so surprised when I met Apple kasi international star siya and yet, he’s very down to earth, very reachable and friendly. I’m really excited to be chosen as a mentor. I know it’s a big responsibility to be one. At first, tinanong ko pa nga ang staff ng show, sigurado ba kayo? Am I credible enough? Makakatulong ba talaga ko sa show? But with their powers of persuasion, nakumbinsi nila ako. I’m really excited na makatulong sa mga baguhan who’ll be joining the show.”
ABS-CBN got the exclusive rights to air the worldwide hit franchise from Dutch-based Talpa Media Group and joins 40 other countries around the world that localized it on TV, including the more popular US version of “The Voice” hosted by Carson Daly with Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, and Blake Shelton as coaches. Who will be part of Team Sarah, Team Bamboo, Team Lea, and Team Apl? Watch out for “The Voice of the Philippines” airing this June on ABS-CBN.
