The Cast Of 'Bride & Lover' Discuss The Sensitive Issue Of Premarital Sex

THE SENSITIVE ISSUE of premarital sex was discussed at the presscon of “The Bride & The Lover” that opens today in theatres nationwide. Lovi Poe’s character, Vanessa, is very conservative. She will surrender her virginity to Paulo Avelino only after marriage. Because of this Paulo was easily seduced by Lovi’s best friend, Jennylyn Mercado. The cast was asked about their views on sex before marriage.

“They say it’s the modern age, uso na ang sex muna bago kasal,” says Ahron Villena, who plays Lovi’s lover after her breakup with Paulo. “Hindi na issue sa’kin ang virginity basta mahal mo ang babae, but I prefer pa ring makasal muna kami bago mag-sex.”

“People have different views and everyone has his own stand on the matter,” says Carla Dunareaunu, the girlfriend of Christian Bautista who’s being introduced in the film. “Whatever you choose to do with the person you’re with, I don’t think anyone has the right to judge you about it.”

“Yes, I agree with Carla,” says Lovi. “We belong to a different generation now and I think nobody has the right to judge anyone. It’s your choice.”

“I come from a Catholic family so dapat, marriage before the act,” says Paulo. But as we all know, this didn’t happen in his case as he now has a son with LJ Reyes but they’re not married. “Kasi yun nga, people say life is too short, so i-experience mo na lahat as you don’t know kung kailan ka mawawala.”

“Well, alam naman ng lahat ang buhay ko,” says Jennylyn. “It’s an open book. May anak na ako. So alam na nila yung sagot,” she laughs. “But kung maibabalik ko lang ang panahon, siguro... ahh.... I’d say my life would be a bad example kasi I’d now go for marriage before sex. Dapat lang talaga, turuan ang mga kabataan ngayon ng tamang bagay. Ng prevention. Kasi lahat tayo, curious, nai-in love. Kaya ang anak ko, tuturuan ko siya, lalo na pag babae. Ayokong maipit siya sa isang tao, maaksidente, mabuntis.”

Everyone was all ears when it was Hayden Kho’s turn to speak. “Coming from me, wow, si Hayden, marriage before sex. Yan ang stand ko. Before. But then, nagkamali ako, e. So I learned my lesson. Kung ngayon mo ako tatanungin, dapat talaga, marriage before sex. That’s my stand now.”

And what about the film’s director, Joel Lamangan? “Downpayment muna before sex,” and he laughs so loud.
