KRIS BERNAL turned 24 on May 17. She got the surprise of her life when her boyfriend (she insists they’re only MU, meaning, malabong usapan), Carl Guevarra, gifted her with a free round trip ticket to Singapore, along with her brother as chaperon. “Grabe, wala akong ginastos at all, even one centavo,” she says. “Lahat, siyang nagbayad, pati pag kumakain kami sa labas at sa pagsa-shopping ko. Ayaw niya kong mag-share. Nagulat na lang ako kasi binigay na lang niya yung ticket and itinerary namin two days before our departure. Yun pala, kinausap na niya ang parents ko at nagpaalam na siya nang maayos sa mga ito.”
We didn’t know Carl can be so “galante” while Kris can be a “Bilmoko Girl”. “We went to the Universal Studio, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore Flyer, China Town at iba pang famous place sa Singapore. He really spent for everything,” Kris adds.
Upon coming home, it’s her turn to share her blessings with the less fortunate. She went to a charity institution for orphaned girls and brought some goodies. “Ang dami ko namang blessings na nakuha from the Lord so I felt dapat lang akong mag-share. Natutuwa naman ako dahil ang daming mga batang napasaya ko sa Girls Home unit ng Boys Town.”
So what’s her birthday wish? “Good health for my family. For my career, hindi ko pa naman naabot yun talagang peak ng career ko so I’m hoping ma-achieve ko sana yun with the future projects that GMA-7 will give me, like yung ‘Princesa ng Masa’ na next project ko raw with Aljur Abrenica. Gusto ko ring mabigyan ng chance na makatrabaho ang top actresses natin like Gov. Vilma Santos and Nora Aunor as I know I will learn a lot from them.”
She’s now doing Director Gil Portes’ entry to the Sineng Pambansa and she’s lucky he also chose her to star in the remake of “Miss X”, one of the biggest hits of Ate Vi filmed on location in Amsterdam in the Netherlands in 1979. “Sabi nga raw niya, pero as long as hindi pa nagro-roll ang camera, I can only just keep on hoping and praying na sana nga, matuloy. It’ll be a big honor to do a movie na ginawa before ng isang Vilma Santos, pero nakakatakot din and I hope to do my best para hindi ako mapahiya.”
