KEAN CIPRIANO is a rocker who successfully branched out into acting in films like “Babae sa Septic Tank” (where he got some acting nominations) and “The Reunion”. “But I never really left my band, Callalily,” he says. “Music pa rin ang first love ko.”
He’s now in the new Rufa Mae Quinto film, “Ang Huling Henya” and also appears regularly on ABS-CBN’s “Banana Nite”. He’s also directing his own short film, but on June 7 at Music Museum, he’ll perform with his band Callalily in a special back to back concert called “Switch” with 6CycleMind, the band headed by Tutti Caringal who just won as a councilor in Laguna.
“The idea for this concert came when we’d perform together at 70s Bistro,” says Kean. “Our fans would troop to the venue at hindi sila magkasya so they said, why not bring this to a bigger venue and make it a major concert? This is also our answer to the so many foreign acts that come to our country. This is the chance for all local music lovers to show their support to Filipino musicians and artists. So heto nga, we’re doing it in Music Museum and there’ll be many surprises. Pag nag-click ito doon, we’ll bring it to various provincial cities and also to the U.S.”
Will this be a showdown between their two bands? “Not naman showdown kasi we’re really good friends. We and our manager, Darwin Hernandez, are just excited working together. ‘Switch’ ang title kasi we’ll be singing each other’s hit songs and we’ll also do some cover versions. We will do our own interpretations of songs we don’t usually play. Pinag-usapan na namin yung aming lineup of songs and it really promises to be a great evening of music for all our fans. We also have a choir that will have special guest singers.”
Are they open to doing a full monty? “Maghuhubad kami? Why not? Basta sa ikagaganda ng show,” he laughs.
Aside from Kean, the members of Callalily are Aaron Ricafrente, Lemuel Belaro and Tatsi Jamnague (the crush of ABS-CBN’s Eric John Salut.) Aside from Tutti, the members of 6CycleMind are Bobby Canamo, Rye Sarmiento, Herbert Fernandez and Vic Aquino. For tickets to “Switch”, call SM at 470-2222, Ticketworld at 891-9999 and Music Museum at 721-6726.
