THE MOMENT he’s introduced to a writer, the first question Victor Silayan hears is: How are you related to the late Vic Silayan?
“He’s my grandfather,” he says. “And the late beauty queen-actress Chat Silayan was my aunt.”
A contract star of TV5, he was introduced in “The Sisters” and “Third Eye”. Right now, he’s in two current shows and is taping yet another new one, “Misibis Bay”, on location in Bicol.
“My two current shows are ‘Boracay Bodies’, a reality show shot in Boracay, and ‘Cassandra: Warrior Angel’ where I play Adrian, Eula Caballero’s boyfriend who joined the forces of darkness and became a malign,” he says. “Papatayin na ang character ko in ‘Cassandra’ kasi nga lilipat na ko sa ‘Misibis Bay’.”
Isn’t he so lucky to have one show after another? “Yes, I know, and I’m thankful to TV5 for that. Tuloy-tuloy lang ang trabaho ko.”
And he’s always baring his body. “Yes, I guess because I started as a Bench model. Alam ko namang my body is an asset and I really take good care of my physique by going to the gym regularly. And here in ‘Misibis Bay’, you should really be fit kasi ang mga kasama ko rito, puro physically fit din, like Daniel Matsunaga, Luke Jickain and Vin Abrenica. Battle of the abs nga raw kami rito.”
Despite his sexy image, he wants to remain wholesome in the eyes of the public. “Usually, shirtless lang naman ako, then naka-boardshorts. Never yung briefs lang. Ayoko naman noong reputation na, yan si Victor, naghuhubad yan. Parang malaswa ang dating, di ba? E, dito sa ‘Misibis Bay’, okay lang nakahubad kasi our setting is a resort, may beach, so understandable.”
What if it’s a daring bed scene that he’s asked to disrobe for? “I won’t be too comfortable but it’ll depend kung sinong ka-partner ko at gaano ka-intense ang gusto ng director. It’s negotiable. Basta not too vulgar or bastos. Mas gusto ko pa ring makilala like my Lolo who’s a respected dramatic actor in classic films like ‘Kisapmata’ and ‘Karnal’. Not just because I go sexy.”
He’s been paired with TV5’s top princesses: Eula Caballero in ‘Third Eye’ and ‘Cassandra’ and now, Ritz Azul in ‘Misibis Bay’. How would he compare the two? “Parang hindi fair pagkumparahin sila kasi mas matagal ko nang nakasama si Eula. She’s so down to earth, magaan kasama sa set, hindi maarte. Nagkasundo kami agad. We became comfortable with each other right away. Friends na kami talaga. Si Ritz, she’s being projected as someone more sexy and she fits the bill. Bago pa lang kami nagkakasama and so far, I’d say na okay rin siya. I hope to get to know her better as the taping goes along.”
He was linked to Krista Miller, the girl previously linked to Cesar Montano, while they’re taping “Boracay Bodies”. “Naging friends din kami. She’s very nice, friendly and some people misjudge her as wild, malandi. So I guess she should be more careful lalo na when she’s in front of other people para hindi siya ma-misinterpret.”
Although he’s busy working, Victor has not neglected his college studies. He’s on his last year as an economics and corporate management major at La Salle. “Kaya nga I’m so glad that during this summer vacation, ang dami kong na-tape na shows. Now magba-back to school na in June, I’d be giving more priority na to my studies kasi nga graduating ako.”
