Bangs Garcia Plays Her Sexiest Role So Far In The Sineng Pambansa Entry, 'Lauriana'

BANGS GARCIA is ready to disrobe in Director Mel Chionglo’s entry to the Film Development Council Sineng Pambansa entry, “Lauriana”. They left yesterday for the location, Tulay Buhangin in Padre Burgos, Bondoc Peninsula in Quezon. Shooting officially starts today, Sunday. What made her accept the project that will be very daring?

“First time ko to play the title role no less,” she says. “When Direk Mel talked to me and explained the script, nawala lahat ng hesitation ko. I talked to my parents, ayaw nila, but I felt I’m older now at hinog na ako for this kind of role which requires malalim na aktingan. Ako si Lauriana, isang hamak ng baylarinang nagmahal ng sobra sa isang Philippine Constabulary captain na bubugbugin lang pala ako at ikukulong sa kuwarto, played by Allen Dizon. It offers a good lesson to wives oppressed by their husbands”

How far would she go? “I’m willing to go as far as Direk Mel Chionglo would ask me.”

Direk Mel says there will be no censorship for the entries in the Sineng Pambansa filmfest. So does that mean she’ll do full frontal nudity? “Hindi naman,” says Direk Mel. “Breast exposure lang, but it’ll be very sexy.”

Does she know she’s second choice for the role? The first actress who was considered was Nina Jose, who begged off later when her mom was diagnosed to have a terminal illness.

“Okay lang,” says Bangs. “Ang ganda ng script ni Ricky Lee and very challenging talaga ang role. Also, comfortable na ko sa leading man ko, si Allen. We were together in ‘Marino’, ‘Migrante’ and we just did ‘Burgos’ kunsaan brother and sister kami. Ngayon, common law wife niya ako as ‘Lauriana’. Sana manalo ako ng award for this. Actually, it was Jake Cuenca who inspired me to do this movie. Magkasama kami sa ‘El Brujo’ ng Star Cinema at naikuwento niya sa’king he did the Sineng Pambansa entry, ‘Lihis’, where he had gay love scenes with Joem Bascon. Pinaka-daring daw na nagawa niya. Kinuwento niya sa’kin ang mga ginawa nila at naloka ko sa mga detalye. But if he could be that daring for a good project, naisip ko, kaya ko rin.”

Bangs has just returned from a long vacation abroad. “I travelled to various countries, sa States, sa Dubai, iba pa. After I did ‘Kung Ako’y Iiiwan Mo’ sa ABS, I decided to rest muna kasi na-stress ako sa role ko roon as a psychotic. After this movie, I’m ready to do a soap again.”
