VIVIAN VELEZ is known as Ms. Body Beautiful and she has maintained her voluptuous figure up to now, even if her two sons, Daniel (who’s in college) and Patrick (a high school senior), are already 18 and 17 years old. On the set of TV5’s new mini-series, “Misibis Bay”, shot on location at the plush resort in Legazpi City, Albay, Vivian’s strong presence remains so dynamic and magnetic that she easily eclipses the younger newcomers around her.
At the dinner by the beach with the press, she’s wearing an outfit with a plunging neckline and her abundant cleavage was really quite distracting. As one writer quips: “Nagmumura pa rin.” Even her face remains unlined and unwrinkled without resorting to cosmetic surgery.
As a producer, Vivian’s Amazaldy Films made a lot of blockbusters like “Sampung Ahas ni Eba”, “Ben Tumbling”, “Pieta,” “Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang”,“Berdugo”, “Paradise Inn” (for which she won a best actress award) and “Apoy sa Iyong Kandungan” (where she played the wife of Ronaldo Valdez who turns out to be gay.) She sold the TV rights of her films to Viva, which produced one of her most memorable movies, “Kasalanan Bang Sambahin Ka”, for which she got several best actress nominations.)
She returned to TV in “Imortal” on ABS-CBN two years ago and now, she’s also in ABS’s “Maria Mercedes”. “Nagpaalam muna ko sa kanilang gagawin ko itong ‘Misibis Bay’ kasi malayo pa naman ang ‘Maria Mercedes’,” she says. “Pumayag naman sila. I really want to try working with TV5 and so far, enjoy naman ako kasi maasikaso sila.”
When not facing the camera, she’s busy with her business involving aircraft. She’s now selling new planes to flying schools. “Kasi marami sa ginagamit nila, puro luma na. We also sell to those who want to buy their own plane or helicopter. My partners are all in the U.S.”
Vivian also took up filmmaking with the late Director Marilou Diaz Abaya. “I belong to the last batch of her students. I got depressed when she passed, na sinundan pa ni Direk Celso Ad. Castillo who directed me in ‘Paradise Inn’.”
In “Misibis Bay”, she plays Miranda Cadiz, the manipulative sister of Christopher de Leon who owns the plush resort hotel and she wants to snatch it away from him. “It’s a good role at para lang kaming nagbabakasyon din dito sa Misibis Bay while taping it. Ang ganda ng lugar. Very relaxing.”
