GMA-7’S NEW Sunday noontime show, “Sunday All Stars”, started last Sunday, Father’s Day, with Lovi Poe and Heart Evangelista as hosts. Carla Abellana should have been one of them but she went to Bangkok to celebrate her birthday there with BF Geoff Eigenmann. She'll just join them next Sunday.
There were four teams of stars led by Christian Bautista, Jolina Magdangal, Mark Bautista and Jennylyn Mercado, reminiscent of what the performers did then in “That’s Entertainment”. The judges are Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid, Jaya and Janno Gibbs. The team leaders will do their work for only one month and then a new set of leaders will be chosen for the following month. The stars under Christian are Glaiza de Castro, Bea Binene, JayR, Aicelle Santos, Kristoffer Martin, Winwyn Marquez, Julian Trono at Solenn Heussaff with the Manouvres as special guests.
Working under Jolina are Aljur Abrenica, Kris Bernal, Alden Richards, Louise delos Reyes, Enzo Pineda, Jonalyn Viray, Kris Lawrence, Diva Montelaba, Sam Pinto, and the Addlib dance crew.
Mark Bautista’s team members are Rachelle Ann Go, Barbie Forteza, Derrick Monasterio, Mark Herras, Rochelle Pangilinan, Frencheska Farr, Rita de Guzman, Denise Barbacena, Kylie Padilla, and Mxmvmnt.
Jennylyn Mercado’s team is composed of Andrea Torres, Max Collins, Rocco Nacino, Maricris Garcia, Ruru Madrid , Sef Cadayona, Yassi Pressman, Julie Anne San Jose and Sexbomb dancers.
GMA’s Entertainment Exec Lilybeth Rasonable is optimistic that the new format where each competing team plans and executes their own performances will attract more viewers. “We always associate Sundays with fun and that’s what SAS promises to give the viewers - all-out-fun and excitement,” she says. “We’ll make your Sunday noon truly a lot of fun with the enjoyment of watching world-class production numbers and performances conceptualized by the artists themselves.”
At the end of the show, Jennylyn’s team was declared the winner. The writers invited to the initial telecast felt that it’s actually Mark Bautista’s team that gave the much better performance. But then, the winning team is determined not only by the judges (50%) but also by text votes (50%) and there’s no doubt Jennylyn and her team member, Julie Anne San Jose, have the bigger fan base among the stars who performed. So in the end, it’s not really the performance that determines the winner but who among them have more fans who are willing to text to support their respective idols. Management should do something about this as this would no doubt affect the future enthusiasm and performance of other participating stars.
