ARTISTA ACADEMY discovery Malak So Shdifat is so happy to be part of TV5’s new mini-series, “Misibis Bay”. “It’s a big break for me to be part of this drama show,” she says. “I had a great experience working with senior stars Boots Anson Roa, Christopher de Leon and Vivian Velez, tapos with my younger co-stars led by Ritz Azul, Daniel Matsunaga, Megan Young, Vin Abrenica, Victor Silayan and Luke Jickain. Tapos on location pa sa beautiful resort of Misibis Bay in Bicol ang taping kaya nag-enjoy kaming lahat sa two week taping naming doon. Para kaming nagtatrabaho na, nagbabakasyon pa.”
She plays the best friend of Ritz in the story and she’ll eventually figure in a love triangle with Vivian and Luke. “I really feel so thankful sa TV5 kasi after they gave me a short role in ‘Never Say Goodbye’ as the girlfriend of Edgar Allan Guzman, heto’t may kasunod agad na ‘Misibis Bay’ at mas mahaba pa ang role ko dito. Kaya naman I’m really now more serious with my work. Kung noon, medyo pa-easy easy pa ako. Now, gusto kong pagbutihin talaga ang trabaho ko.”
Since the show is billed as a sexyserye, did she have any preparations before taping? “Yes, kasi nga beach setting, magtu-two piece kami, so sobrang diet-diet ako. At dahil mapapasabak kami sa acting sa mga beterano, binigyan din kami ng acting workshop for three days and we also have an acting coach sa taping. I’m really excited kasi magaganda ang mga eksena naming lahat.”
She admits she has a non-showbiz boyfriend. Doesn’t he get jealous when she goes sexy? “Hindi naman. I had kissing scenes with Edgar Allan sa ‘Never Say Goodbye’ and he’s broadminded naman to know this is just part of my work. One year na kami noong March. Ang importante, I remain faithful to him. I don’t think magkakaroon ng conflict sa work ko at sa lovelife ko.”
Writers say masa audiences will find it hard to remember her difficult name. “It’s my real name and, sa ‘Artista Academy’, they were the ones who told me to use my real name na lang and not use a screen name.”
