RICHARD GUTIERREZ denies he and younger brother Ritchie Paul had an altercation in public at the recent birthday celebration of their sister Ruffa G. “Wala yon, hindi totoo yon, walang ganon,” Richard says laughing when he faced the press solo for the promo of “My Lady Boss”. “Lambingan lang namin yun ng brother, karinyuhan. Nag-wrestling lang kami. I love my brother.”
He’s busy promoting “My Lady Boss” that will have its premiere night tomorrow 8 PM at SM Megamall. He’s glad that it got a B rating from the Cinema Evaluation Board whose members found the movie very entertaining. “Nakakatuwa kasi sa mall show namin ni Marian Rivera sa SM Bacoor then sa campus tour ko sa UE Manila, talagang dinumog kami. Lahat, nagsasabing panonoorin nila ang movie when it opens in theatres on Wednesday. At hindi naman kami mahihiya kasi mage-enjoy talaga sila. I really want to thank all those people for their warm reception to us.”
His conrtract with GMA-7 expired last May 28 so he’s now a free lance actor on TV. But he still has two remaining films in his contract with GMA Films. “I’m happy and fulfilled in my 11 year stay with GMA but I want to rest muna and have a vacation.”
We tell him it’s not wise to say he wants to rest. When John Lloyd Cruz announced this at the presscon of “It Takes a Man and a Woman”, he was told actors who take a rest often find it hard to come back, like what happened to Jericho Rosales who rested from acting and whose career suffered because of it. It seems the public doesn’t like stars who say they want to rest.
“I’m not really resting naman,” says Richard. “I want to study filmmaking and also to devote more time to my businesses. I put up kasi my gym, Ultimate Fitness in Metrowalk, and I have two restaurants now, Dillinger’s Steak House and Prohibition Lounge in Greenbelt. Then we’re putting up a new one ni Raymond and Ate Ruffa, the Gramercy Penthouse, which will be the highest bar in the country as it’s in the 71st floor of a skyscraper. Ginagawa na ang interiors nito ngayon.”
