TONI GONZAGA has no less than four shows on Sundays: the new cooking show “Kuwentong Kusina, Kuwentong Buhay” at 10:30 AM, the musical variety show “ASAP” at noontime, the showbiz talk show “The Buzz” at 4 PM and the reality search “The Voice of the Philippines” at 8 PM. So from now on, Sunday will be known as Toni Gonzaga Day.
“Wala naman akong show from Monday to Saturday kaya ibinuhos na lahat sa Sunday,” she quips.
She’s also busy on the big screen. She just wrapped up work for Star Cinema’s “Four Sisters and a Wedding” where she plays the eldest sister of Bea Alonzo, Angel Locsin, Shaina Magdayao and Enchong Dee. She’ll soon start the Metro-Manila filmfest entry, “My Super Kap”, with Sen. Bong Revilla and Ogie Alcasid.
This is the reason why, despite pressure from the press who keeps on asking her as to when she’ll marry her boyfriend, Paul Soriano, with whom she’s been going steady for six years now, she says that marriage is still far from her mind. As they say, strike while the iron is hot.
Toni says she really watches cooking shows on the food and lifestyle channels. How different will her own cooking show be from existing ones? “We will feature inspiring true stories from letter-senders. We’ll then cook a special dish for the person who inspires the letter-sender. Sa first episode, we feature a former streetkid, Rommel Bechayda, whose life took a turn for the better nang mapunta siya sa He Cares Foundation ni Brother Joel. For Bro. Joel, we cooked a special kare-kare dish, Sulipan style, with the help of Chef Gene Gonzales. Each week, we’ll have a guest kapamilya star and a celebrity chef. All the dishes will be prepared with special recipes from San Miguel Pure Foods. We will be travelling all over the country to feature different places and different regional cuisines with San Miguel Pure Foods in it.”
Why was Toni chosen to be the host and not someone who’s married and is really a homemaker? “No doubt she’s one of the top hosts now sa Kapamilya network,” says San Miguel Pure Foods VP Alden Castaneda. “Kitang-kita ito when she hosts PBB. May magic siya at may rapport in connecting with the viewers so we know she’ll be perfect for this show.”
“Hindi nyo po naitatanong,” Toni says. “Nagluluto po talaga ako. Kumuha ako ng cooking and baking sa Culinary Arts Academy.”
To prove this, she baked some vanilla cupcakes and had it distributed to all the writers she invited to her presscon. It’s yummy and we won’t be surprised if she’d put up her own bakeshop someday.
