What Will Be The Eight Official Entries In The Metro-Manila Filmfest This December?

THE EIGHT OFFICIAL entries to the December Metro-Manila Filmfest chosen by their screening committee will officially be announced tomorrow. A total of 15 scripts were submitted, which means 7 of these will be dumped.

Last year was a turning point for the perennial entries of Vic Sotto and Bong Revilla, “Enteng Kabisote” and “Agimat”. Their combined forces was only number 3 to “Sisteraka” and “One More Try”. The same goes for “Shake, Rattle & Roll 14”, which didn’t do as well as expected so Mother Lily has laid it to rest.

Since ABS-CBN has proven their strength at the box office with their filmfest entries, our guess is that all their entries will be accepted in the festival this year. This is headed by the film version of their hit morning soap that must have a pre-sold audience, “Be Careful with My Heart”, with Jodi Sta. Maria and Richard Yap. Then their co-production with Viva Entertainment, “Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy”, topbilled by Vice Ganda, Maricel Soriano and Gabby Concepcion. Then their co-prod with Vic Sotto’s M-Zet, “Tork and My Little Bossing”, starring Ryza Mae Dizon, Kris Aquino and her son Bimby. Then there’s their co-prod with Regal Entertainment, the horror flick “Pagpag” starring Daniel Padilla and Katherine Bernardo.

The other entries most likely to be chosen would be those of Sen. Bong Revilla and Laguna Gov. ER Estregan , who are both “suki” in the festival. Bong’s entry is an action-comedy with Toni Gonzaga, “My Super Kap”, while ER Estregan’s story is another true to life story of a hoodlum, “Boy Golden”. Robin Padilla has two entries, “10,000 Hours” and “Sa Ngalan ng Ama, Ina at Mga Anak” (formerly “Kuratong Baleleng”), but only one of these will be accepted.

So that’s four from Star Cinema, one from Bong, one from ER and one from Robin, making it a total of 7. Only one more movie will be accepted and this would be coming from the following entries: “Ibong Adarna” with Rocco Nacino and Angel Aquino, “Everybody Loves” with Jake Cuenca, Jericho Rosales and Megan Young, “Kimmy Dora prequel” with Piolo Pascual and Eugene Domingo, “Kulay Abo ang Langit” with Carla Abellana and Diether Ocampo, “Kaleidoscope World” with Sef Cadayona and Yassi Pressman, “San Pedro Calungsod” with JM de Guzman and “Hope in a Bottle” with Ruffa Gutierrez, Maja Salvador and Angeline Quinto. So who do you think will make it to the magic eight? If Spring Films wouldn’t withdraw, then the Piolo-Eugene might be it, but we heard they’re having second thoughts. The other entries just lack star power so it’s anybody’s guess who’ll be the luckiest one among them.
