ALESSANDRA DE ROSSI’s career is on a roll. For her role as the woman who had a child with her own cousin in the Cinemalaya entry last year, “Sta. Nina”, she won the best actress award at the Asian International Filmfest in Sarawak, Malaysia, and the Urian best supporting actress award recently. Not all actresses can say they won both the lead and the supporting actress awards for the same role.
Turning 28 on July 19, GMA-7 just renewed her contract with them and she last appeared in “Home Sweet Home” as the Ice Queen. She’s now also in the cast of two new films. She heads the cast of the Cinemalaya entry, “The Liars”, based on the true story of a kiddie baseball team who cheated in a game abroad. Director Gil Portes says she’s so good she can give stiff competition in the best actress award to Gov. Vilma Santos, who’s the one favoured to win for her own entry, “Ekstra”.
And after the Singaporean film, “The Maid”, she’s now shooting another international film for a Korean production company, “The Mango Tree”, on location in Cebu. She was personally chosen by the director, Lee Soo Sung, who directed the first zombie flick in Korea called “Zombie”, a big hit in 2010, and the acclaimed rom-com, “Rent”. This is the second time Alex works with a Korean crew, the first time being in the TV soap “Green Rose” that shot on location in Korea for nine days.
“Masarap to work with them as they’re very professional in everything,” she says. “Pero mahirap din kasi they don’t speak English so may language barrier. We need interpreters all the time, kundi sign language na lang kami sa set.”
