LAST YEAR, Alessandra de Rossi’s entry, “Sta. Nina”, won for her both a best actress award (at the Asian Filmfest in Sarawak, Malaysia no less) and a best supporting actress award (at the Urian.) This year, she has another entry, “Liars”, where she plays a neophyte journalist who becomes a whistleblower when she learned that Philippine Little Leaguers cheated at an international baseball championship game. But she’s not expecting to win anything this time.
“Sabi nga ni Direk Gil Portes, huwag na akong umasang matatalo ko si Vilma Santos sa ‘Ekstra’,” she says. “Ang importante lang daw, maitawid namin itong movie nang maayos. And we did.”
The movie tackles a valid issue about the evils of lying, cheating and corruption, but Alex plays more of a supporting role as she appears mainly at the start and towards the end of the movie. She does interpret her pivotal role quietly but effectively.
Alex turned 29 on July 19 but she didn’t have any big celebration. “Just a quiet dinner and thanksgiving with family and close friends kasi napakabait sa akin ng Diyos at lahat naman ng pinagdadasal ko, ipinagkakaloob niya,” she says.
She’ll turn 30 next year. Any plans to marry and settle down anytime soon? “Ganun ba kadali yun? Ihanap nyo muna ako ng Mr. Right. Ayoko ngang mag-asawa dahil lang sa pressure ng ibang tao. Okay lang for me na single ako, masaya naman ako. Kaysa mag-asawa ako’t hindi naman ako magiging maligaya.”
She and Heart Evangelista became best friends when they did “Legacy”. Last Saturday, Heart was supposed to co-host “Eat Bulaga” and “Startalk” but she wasn’t able to do so because she kept on crying and crying due to some personal problem. She made it clear it’s not because she’s having an LQ with BF Sen. Chiz Escudero but because of a new problem with her and her parents. What can Alex say about this?
“Hindi ko rin alam. But I’m glad na finally, natututo na siya to handle her own finances. Ngayon lang nga niya talaga nalaman kung magkano ang tinatanggap niyang talent fee per taping. Sa tagal na niya sa showbiz, ngayon lang niya nalaman kung magkano ang kinikita niya.”
