WRITER-DIRECTOR JUN R. LANA won a lot of acclaim last year for his touching film about a gay old man played by Eddie Garcia in “Bwakaw”. This year, he has another potential award winner, “Mga Kuwentong Barbero”, co-produced by his own Octobertrain films with a Hongkong company no less and slated to join international film festivals. Filmed in a remote town that time forgot in the hinterlands of the Sierra Madre mountains of Tanay, it’s set in the 1970s and stars Eddie Garcia once again, along with Eugene Domingo, Iza Calzado, Katrina Halili, Gladys Reyes, Nonie and Shamaine Buencamino.
It’s an open secret in showbiz that Jun Lana is in a relationship with TV5 Creative Head Percival Intalan. They recently came out into the open to celebrate their 10th anniversary of being together by exchanging platinum rings, with a plan of having a wedding this coming October in New York, where same sex marriage is accepted. Jon Santos also married her American boyfriend in the U.S. some seven years ago.
In his Facebook account, Lana declared about his love affair with Perci: “Ten years of love, laughter and respect. That’s about 50 in straight years. Perci is the smartest person I know, bar none.”
Perci, in return, reveals: “Jun is a best friend, my staunchest supporter, toughest critic, greatest inspiration rolled into one. He brings out the best in people. He certainly brought out the best in me.”
In these days of “My Husband’s Lover”, we wonder who’ll the next gay couple who’d come out next. We know of several such couples in showbiz but they don’t have the guts that Jun and Perci have in announcing to all the world that they love each other. Here’s hoping their union will really last for the rest of their lives.
