ENRIQUE GIL’S career got a big boost with his dramatic portrayal of Francis, the boy born with a hole in his heart in “Muling Buksan ang Puso” that ends on October 4. He was proclaimed by ABS-CBN as The Next Ultimate Leading Man and now he’s playing the third wheel in “She’s The One” with Dingdong Dantes and Bea Alonzo. And he’s also borrowed by Viva for “Diary of a Pangit”. He just launched his own album and will soon stage his own concert, “King of the Gil”, at Araneta Coliseum on November 29.
“We tape ‘Muling Buksan’ five time a week and sinisingit ko pa ang shooting ng ‘She’s the One’, so I have no day off,” he says. “After ‘Muling Buksan’, I was told may kasunod na agad na bagong soap for me, then I would have to make singit pa my rehearsals for my concert. Talagang super busy.”
Cherie Gil, who plays his real mom in “Muling Buksan”, has nothing but praises for him. “He prepares ahead of time no matter how simple the scene is,” she says. “He’s very dedicated so I can see na magtatagal talaga siya sa industriya, that’s why we have the same family name.”
“I will really miss her at lahat ng mga kasama ko sa show ngayong patapos na kami,” says Enrique. “Everyone’s asking me, bakit matatapos na kayo? Dapat extended pa kayo. But from the start, alam na naming fixed na yung story at hanggang doon lang ito tatakbo. I will really miss my character and all my co-stars.”
Especially Julia Montes? “You know, before this, Julia and I have worked in films, ‘The Reunion’ and ‘The Strangers’, but we never became close. Dito, sa simula, naiilang pa kami sa isa’t isa, kapaan pa, but eventually, we became very close at ngayon, sobrang okay na kami.”
He has worked with Kathryn Bernardo before in “Princess and I” but she ended up with Daniel Padilla. This time, will Julia end up with him or with Enchong Dee? “We don’t know yet. Hindi pa namin nate-tape ang ending. Abangan nyo na lang. But I’d love it kung kami ni Julia ang magkakatuluyan.”
