KRIS BERNAL says she bears no grudges against GMA-7 even if it took eight months before she was given a new soap, “Prinsesa ng Masa”. “In fairness to them, dapat noon pa ipalalabas ito soon after my last show, ‘Coffee Prince’, ended,” she says. “But hindi naman nila ko pinabayaan while waiting for this to start kasi sige-sige ang guestings ko, I’m also in ‘Sunday All Stars’ and I’m doing many regional shows for them kaya I’v even travelled all over the country for free.”
In “Prinsesa ng Buhay Ko”, she plays an orphan named Princess. As a little girl, she was left by her remaining brother, Marco Alcaraz, in an orphanage where she meets Nick, who’ll grow up to be Aljur Abrenica. Princess and Nick become the best of friends but Nick’s dad (Emilio Garcia), eventually comes along to get him so they get separated. As a grownup, she saves Aljur’s half-brother, Renz Fernandez, from some bad guys who shot him. She and Aljur also meet again by chance and the half brothers become rivals for her attention.
How would she describe Aljur now? “This is our 11th project as a love team and he has definitely become better, more mature with his craft. I really don’t know why yung iba, walang bilib sa kanya gayong he’s such a good actor naman. Dito, napakaganda ng role niya as the least favoured son of Emilio Garcia kasi inaapi siya ng asawa nito, si Carmi Martin as Aljur’s cruel stepmother. He’s definitely very serious with his craft as an actor at nai-insecure nga ako sa dynamics ng acting niya. Feeling ko, nilalamon yata niya ako kapag magkaeksena kami kaya kailangang galingan ko lagi para lumevel up ako sa kanya.”
And how is it working with the son of Lorna Tolentino and the late Rudy Fernandez? “Very serious siya with his work. Nakikita kong paulit-ulit niyang binabasa ang script. Mabait din siya, a real gentleman. You can see he was raised well by his parents kaya he’s very polite, marespeto. Masaya kaming lahat sa set.”
