ISN’T SID LUCERO just lucky? He’s Heart Evangelista’s leading man in the daily afternoon soap, “Magkano Ba ang Pag-ibig?”, and here he is also playing the pivotal role of Andres Bonifacio in GMA News TV Channel 11’s period offering, “Katipunan”, with Glaiza de Castro as Gregoria de Jesus, Nico Antonio as Emilio Aguinaldo (an ABS-CBN Sta Magic actor who gets his biggest break on TV in this show), plus Benjamin Alves, Dominic Roco, Mercedes Cabral and Roi Vinzon. The landmark historical docudrama will be a no holds barred re-telling of what really happened when the Katipunan was organized until the death of Bonifacio. The characters will not necessarily be presented as heroes but ordinary mortals like us who have their own weaknesses and shortcomings.
Behind this ambitious project is the award-winning production team led by Katipunan creator Jaileen Jimeno, program manager Nowell Cuanang , and writer Ian Victoriano. Jimeno is the senior program manager of GMA News TV’s Bawal ang Pasaway and Investigative Documentaries. Cuanang is the program manager of the internationally recognized documentary program Reel Time, which earned GMA – and the country – its third George Foster Peabody Awards. Victoriano wrote the critically-acclaimed movie "Sakay." A pool of experts was tapped for historical accuracy.
“Katipunan” is an eight-part docudrama that aims to present the Katipunan history in its entirety. It will present in detail the life of the Supremo, the truth about the intrigues and in-fighting within the Katipunan, and the heroes and heels of the Philippine Revolution. It’ll replace “Titser” in October.
We just hope that Sid, who looks very healthy and looks more like a well fed ilustrado than a hungry rebel, will be truly professional in taping his two shows simultaneously. It’s common knowledge his role in “Hindi Ka Na Mag-iisa” was shortened because he was often missing while taping it.
We really can’t understand why GMA is giving two ongoing roles to the same actor when we already know what happened to Lovi Poe. She’s taping “Akin Pa Rin ang Bukas” for GMA-7 and “Titser” for GMA News TV simultaneously and she suffered from burnout. We truly hope this won’t happen to Sid, who claims he’s now a changed man because of the arrival of his daughter Halo.
