EUGENE DOMINGO is currently in Japan where her indie drama film, “Barber’s Tales”, is an entry in the Tokyo Filmfest. But in her newest mainstream film, “Status: It’s Complicated”, she’s doing a sophisticated comedy where she plays a famous sexologist named Marian no less.
“Her hilarious riotous performance is bound to be talked about as it’s quite controversial,” says the film’s writer-director, Chris Martinez. “Lumaban siya talaga ng sabayan sa pagpapa-sexy at paglalantad ng katawan sa younger co-stars niyang sina Maja Salvador and Solenn Heussaff na pinagpapantasyang mga aktres ngayon. Pati sa bedscenes with their leading men, Jake Cuenca and Paulo Avelino, hindi siya nagpakabog sa kanila. In a scene with Jake, talagang isinubsob ni Jake mukkha niya sa isang maselang bahagi ng katawan ni Uge. Kay Paulo naman, nagpagulong-gulong silang nakahubad sa kama.”
Eugene really prepared for her sexy scenes. “Nagpapayat naman ako’t nag-work out kasi nakakahiya namang mag-daring na puro bilbil ka,” she says. “Well, sabi nga nila, vampy and sultry naman daw ang dating ko in my revealing scenes, lalo na yung eksena sa Boracay na nag-swimsuit pa ako. O laban kayo? At ang maganda, marami akong magaganda and witty lines that I get to deliver in the movie, like ‘Wag mo ‘kong sanayin, baka mawili ako, hanap-hanapin ko,’ ‘Masarap, magaling, malinamnam, ma-everything’, ‘You like me now, I like you now, fine! You don’t like me tomorrow, I don’t like you tomorrow, fine!’ O, di ba very liberated woman ang dating ng sexologist character ko in this movie?”
She’s aware she’d be compared to the late Miss Rita Gomez, who played her role originally in “Salawahan”, on which “Status: It’s Complicated” is loosely based. “Huwag naman sana kaming pagkumparahin dahil siempre, legendary na si Miss Rita Gomez sa local film industry. Magkaiba rin kami ng interpretation, dahil 70s pa ang movie nila at ako, very contemporary, very now. Ako naman, nagtiwala lang kay Direk Chris Martinez kasi marami na kaming nagawang movies together like ‘100’, ‘Here Come the Bride’ at ‘Kimmy Dora’, kaya kabisado na niya ang potential ko as an actress. Nag-trust lang ako sa kanya completely.”
