SOME QUARTERS say it’s unbecoming for a congresswoman like Lucy Torres-Gomez to be hosting a chismis talk show like “Showbiz Police” on TV5 with Cristy Fermin, Raymond Gutierrez and Director Joey Reyes, shown on Saturdays at 6 PM.
“Bakit naman? Kung nae-enjoy ko naman ang ginagawa kong pagsabayin ang showbiz at pagiging public servant,” she says. “Once a week lang naman ang ‘Showbiz Police’ and hosting it doesn’t require too much of my time. I still have time to be wife to my husband (Richard Gomez) and mom to our daughter (Juliana). Madali naman paghiwalayin ang two different worlds of politics and showbiz. When I’m in congress, I don’t talk about showbiz and, the same way, when I’m in the show, we don’t talk about the bills or laws I’m sponsoring in congress. What I really miss is dancing, which I used to do a lot when I was hosting a dance show.”

Doesn’t she feel awkward when people around her talk about the politicians involved in the pork barrel controversy. “No. Even in Congress, it’s talked about, it’s talked about in every household and you can talk naman about these things without having to judge the personalities involved. So, there’s no awkwardness. There is awkwardness kung kunwari, in a discussion, kinu-crucify ’yung mga personalites involved kahit hindi pa tapos ’yung kaso. So let’s not pass judgment that easily.”
How does she feel that her husband’s love team with Dawn Zulueta has been revived and after the hit “Walang Hanggan”, they’re now doing a movie with Star Cinema? “We’re all happy that the public continues to support their love team, after all these years at kahit may kanya-kanya na silang family. Dawn’s husband is also a congressman and we understand na part ng work nila yun as actors.”
