NIKKI GIL looks radiant in her elegant blue gown at the presscon of “Maria Mercedes” where she plays Mystica, one of the two villains who’ll make life miserable for title-role Jessy Mendiola. You wouldn’t suspect that just a couple of months ago, she suffered from a serious heartbreak when she and Billy Crawford broke up after five years of being together.
She says having a positive outlook helped her a lot to get over it quickly. Has she seen Billy since then? “He was in ‘ASAP’ last Sunday at nagkita kami backstage but hindi kami nagkausap,” she says. “Wala na rin naman kasi dapat pang pag-usapan. Okay na yung ganun.”
Is she ready to fall in love again? “Ay, huwag naman muna. Naku po, isang matinding pagsubok ang pinagdaanan ng puso ko but as much I want to move on, hindi pa ako naghahanap ng bago. Kapag may dumating naman, hindi ko siya babarahan pero hindi ko rin siya hinahanap.”
She seems to enjoy playing contravidas as she also played villain to Empress in “Mundo Ma’y Magunaw” before. “Masaya kasi na yung mga hindi ko magawa in real life, like magmaldita, manampal, nagagawa ko sa soap. It’s very different from what I am in real life. But somehow, you feel empowered kasi if needed pala, like kapag naapi ako, may mailalabas din akong katarayan.”
Gina Marissa Tagasa, the creative manager and head writer of “Maria Mercedes” that starts airing on Monday, praises Nikki as Mystica. “She gives a new and fresh twist to the usual telenovela contravida role,” says Gina. “She comes out classy, wily and charmingly wicked. Marami siyang gugulatin dito.”
