PAULO AVELINO was at two presscons last Thursday. For lunch, he was at ABS-CBN for his new soap, “Honesto”, that will replace “Juan de la Cruz” starting Monday. Dinner was at Imperial Palace for his new movie with Regal Entertainment, “Status: It’s Complicated”, written and directed by the award-winning Chris Martinez.
In “Honesto”, Paulo plays Diego, the father of new child actor Raikko Mateo, who plays the title role. Why did he agree to do a father role?
“Okay lang naman because I’m really a father of a 3-year old boy,” he says. “And this show is very wholesome and teaches good values like honesty, kaya gusto kong mapanood ako rito ng anak ko. Si Maricar Reyes ang mother ni Honesto but we’re not married here. Kasama rin namin sina Joel Torre and Angel Aquino as my parents at kapatid ko naman si Melissa Ricks. Kasama rin sa cast sina Janice de Belen, Nonie Buencamino, Malou Crisologo, Melai Cantiveros, Jason Francisco, Joseph Marco and Spanky Manikan.”
For the first time, Paulo admits that he and LJ Reyes are no longer together. But he denies recent rumors that he tried committing suicide because of their break up. “Bakit ko naman gagawin yun?” he says. “Ang dami kong commitments. I won’t do that. Excited nga ako to promote both my new TV show and my new movie.”
In “Status: It’s Complicated”, he plays Jerry, a nerdy and shy bespectacled graphic artist who’s the best friend of Jake Cuenca, a playboy. They exchange places and Paulo suddenly becomes a randy ladies’ man who becomes involved with not just one but two hot women: Eugene Domingo, a sexologist, and Solenn Heussaff, a fashion designer.
“I had a great time playing my role,” he says. “Ang ganda kasi ng development ng character ko, na tatahi-tahimik noong una, pero yun pala, magiging matinik din sa chicks. I had bed scenes with both Eugene and Solenn. Maganda yung transition ng character ko and the story about love and sexual relationships today will surely be enjoyed by contemporary viewers dahil maraming makaka-identify sa kanila sa situations na ipinapakita namin dito.”
