ROCCO NACINO is fascinating to watch in “Akin Pa rin ang Bukas” because he obviously understands his role well. Rocco Nacino enjoys playing the scheming and double dealing Jerry. He is a young man from squatters who try to make it appear in front of Lovi Poe as Lovelia that he is rich and cultured. When he’s at home with the squatters, he really acts like a regular uncouth “sanggano”. But when he’s with Lovi and Cesar Montano, he speaks in English and delivers lines he quotes from the Hollywood movies he watches and imitates.
Rocco pulls it off quite convincingly in a role totally opposite of his role in the Metro-Manila filmfest entry, “Pedro Calungsod”, where he plays the role of the second Filipino saint. This week, he feels sad that Lovelia is dying because of the congenital hole in her heart that has grown bigger and will require a heart transplant surgery to save her life. When Charee Pineda as Agatha, his partner in crime, tells him about this he felt that if Lovelia would die, then he won’t be able to swindle her anymore in the million peso deal that they plan to do.
Meantime, Charee herself plays hard to get to Gary Estrada as Roel. When Roel gives her some expensive jewelry, she turns them down. She said she’s not a cheap girl he can play around with. She prefers a man who’ll just remain to be faithful to her. Because of this, Gary gets to admire her even more, thinking she’s sincere and not having an inkling that it’s just a ploy to hook him even more.
