VIVIAN VELEZ is happy to be reunited with Director Chito Rono in “Maria Mercedes”. And why not? Chito gave her several best actress nominations when they did “Kasalanan Bang Sambahin Ka” for Viva Films in 1990.
“It’s always great to work with a very talented director like Chito who can bring out the best in you,” she says.
She plays the role of Malvina del Olmo, the highly sophisticated and stylish mother of Jake Cuenca in “Maria Mercedes”. How did she prepare for it? “It’s a difficult role because Malvina is so not like me in real life. I have to put my own mark and own the role, I have to make my own characterization, but it’s Direk Chito who makes it more interesting by polishing it. He told me kailangan, maging endearing pa rin somehow si Malvina kahit kontrabida siya. I love working with Direk Chito. We work well together. Kilala na namin ang isa’t-isa so when it comes to doing scenes, tinginan lang we can already understand what is best to do for a scene.”
“Maria Mercedes” starts airing tonight, with Ruel Bayani as business unit head and Rechie del Carmen and Ricky Rivero as co-directors.
