AT THE CONTRACT signing of Michael V, we chanced upon TV5’s Entertainment Head Wilma Galvante and we asked her about the truth on Eric Quizon’s alleged resignation. “He didn’t resign naman,” she says. “Nagpaalam siya na may aasikasuhin siyang family matters in the U.S. He said he’s coming back. Naiwan din niya yung telemovie that he started for us, ‘Sa Bawat Sandali’, starring Derek Ramsay and Angel Aquino, so it’s Joel Lamangan who’ll take over in directing it.”
Are they satisfied with the way their Weekend Do It Better and Every Day All the Way campaigns for their new weekend and primetime shows are doing?
“Oh yes, we’re very happy because the ratings are constantly improving and on the rise. Si Aga Muhlach in ‘Let’s Ask Pilipinas’ and Sharon Cuneta in ‘Madam Chairman’, you can see na happy at tuwang-tuwa sila sa ginagawa nila and you can feel this as you watch their shows. Ang ‘Positive’ and ‘For Love or Money’ naman on Thursday nights are game-changers kasi sila lang ang once-a-week drama shows on the air. We don’t expect naman to zoom to the greatest heights over night, but slowly, we think we’re achieving our goals and slowly building up our own audience.”
How come Edu Manzano’s show, “What’s Up Doods”, was moved to a later slot? “It’s still on Saturday but we have to move it up kasi nga Aga’s other show, ‘Pinoy Explorer’, was moved from Sunday to Saturday to accommodate the PBA Games on Sunday nights. But yung Saturday shows namin like ‘Tropa Mo Ko Unli’ and ‘Killer Karaoke’, they’re really doing well. Lalo na siguro ngayong si Michael V will now host the local version, ‘Killer Karaoke, Pinoy Naman’. Mas tataas pa ang rating niyan.”
TV5 Pres. Noel Lorenzana said they’re on right track with the programming changes they made. “I’m personally very happy for our stars, they’re all very cooperative, puro magagaling sila, and we’re really proud of them and our high quality shows,” he says. “Our goal is to have something different to offer to the Filipino audiences and we’re glad a lot of viewers are taking notice of that.”
So which of their new shows are his personal favourites? “Lahat sila, puedeng maipamalaki, from ‘For Love or Money’ and ‘Positive’ to ‘Let’s Ask Pilipinas’ and ‘Madam Chairman’. It’s difficult to pinpoint just one or two shows kasi lahat sila, pinag-isipan namin, pinaghirapan, so you can be sure na magaganda lahat ng mapapanood na shows sa amin, from our morning show na ‘Good Morning Club’ to our late night news and public affair shows. It’s a complete package of entertaining, informative and enlightening shows that we offer from morning till night.”
