“Ha? Sino?” she says at the “Gaydar” presscon. “Wala nga akong gaydar, kaya mahina ako sa ganyan. Minsan, maski friends ko, nalalaman ko na lang na bading pala kapag nag-out na sila.”
Could it be she chose to be blind in the case of her past gay BFs? “Sino ba? Wala akong idea kung sino sila. Saka hindi ko talaga napapansin. May mga kakilala talaga kasi kong akala ko, tunay na lalaki, tapos hindi pala.”
She should go back to her list of past BFs and check who among the, in hindsight, are gay. “Naku, huwag na. Baka kung ano pa ang maging reaction ko.”
Her BF Vic Sotto went with her to the premiere night of “Gaydar” in Trinoma. What’s his reaction to the rom-com that’s her first starring role? “At first, seryoso siya. Poker face. Sabi ko, ‘Tumawa ka naman, kahit pakitang tao lang. Sabi niya, ‘Ano ka ba, kahit sa sarili ko nga, hindi ako natatawa!’ Pero eventually, nakita ko, tumatawa na siya. Kasi, ‘yung role ko, si Tina, hindi naman siya masyadong nalalayo sa personalidad ko sa tunay na buhay. Kikay-kikay. Kaya siguro natutuwa siya na nakikita niya ako du’n sa role.”
What’s his judgment about the film? “Natuwa siya. He liked it. Sabi niya, maganda raw dahil feel good movie talaga na hindi ka masyadong mag-iisip. You’ll just feel good after watching it.”
What can she say about reports that she’s a “bilmoko” girl who asked Vic to buy a new house and lot for her? “It’s not true. Ang bahay ko galing sa sarili kong pawis at pagod. Ba’t naman ako magiging bilmoko, e may sarili akong trabaho? I’m in ‘Eat Bulaga’, I do movies and soap, bakit ako aasa sa iba? Sa totoo lang, I’m tired of justifying our relationship. We’re just gonna let time speak for us.”
Pauleen was cast in “Gaydar” by accident. Supervising producer Alemberg Ang says they considered many actresses but no one qualified, until he went to “Eat Bulaga” to promote something with their director of photography. They saw Pauleen and asked to meet with her. “Niri-reading pa lang niya ang script, tawa na kami nang tawa, so ayun, she became Tina, the lead character in ‘Gaydar’ right away,” says Alemberg.
