Christian Bautista Assesses 2013 And Reveals Plans For 2014

CHRISTIAN BAUTISTA, acclaimed as Asia’s Romantic Balladeer, had a great heartwarming experience when he represented our country at the Asean Music for Healing Festival in Japan on Nov. 28. “It’s nice to be performing with the singers of various Asian countries,” he says. “There’s a great feeling of friendship and community. I sang ‘The Way You Look at Me’ and ‘Titanium’ which is gaining strength in being united. Sa taxi, the driver knew I’m Filipino and expressed his sympathy for Typhoon Haiyan so I thanked him kasi ang laki ng tulong ng Japan sa atin. And he said, ‘Oh, Philippines also helped Japan during the earthquake’. So nakakatuwa na nagtutulungan talaga ang magkakaibang bansa, kaya when it was my turn to sing, pinasalamatan ko muna ang lahat ng tumutulong sa ating typhoon victims. The festival will be shown on NHK in Japan and will be aired here on PTV-4. Sayang nga, naunahan pa ko ni Justin Bieber na magpunta sa Tacloban, but I’m thankful that he’s helping our kababayans there.”

Christian, who just won P5,000 as best performer in GMA-7’s ‘Sunday All Stars’, has also composed a new Christmas song with his younger brothers Joshua and Jordan, “Paskong Pilipino”, which is about hope that the birth of our Savior brings after the calamities that happened to our country. He has sang it with them in his renewal of contract as endorser of Ink All You Can. His brothers are as good looking as Christian and can very well start their own showbiz careers. Now, they have a total of 30 branches nationwide. We asked Christian how’s 2013 for him. “Well, it has its ups and downs. I moved to GMA-7, I did my very successful ‘X-Class’ 10th anniversary concert at Meralco, I had a new teleserye, ‘With a Smile’ and I did a stage musical, ‘Cinderella’.”

The downside is he broke up with girlfriend Carla Dunareaunu. What can we expect from him in 2014? “I’m releasing a new album with Universal Records and there’s a new drama with GMA (with Camille Prats and Pauleen Luna). I’m hoping to do another stage play. Someone said I should try Shakespeare or a straight play and I’m willing to challenge myself to try that.”

What can he say that Karylle, with whom he has worked several times, is getting married to Yael Yuzon in March? “Wala pa kong invitation kasi naririnig-rinig ko lang. But I’m happy for her.”
