MOTHER LILY is going all out in doing extra promotion on her own for “Pagpag, Siyam na Buhay”, which her Regal Entertaiment co-produces with Star Cinema. She’s optimistic it will emerge as one of the topgrossers in the Metro Filmfest simply because it’s the only horror entry and horror flicks always make money in the festival. She should know as her horror franchise, “Shake, Rattle & Roll”, produced a total of 14 movies through the years, all of them moneymakers.
She has seen the flick directed by Frasco Mortiz and she’s sure that “Pagpag” will be a hit with fans of scary movies. “Magaling siya, nakakatakot talaga ang pelikula,” she says. “At magaling din ang buong cast, from Daniel Padilla, Kathryn Bernardo, Shaina Magdayao and Paulo Avelino to the supporting cast led by Matet de Leon, Miles Ocampo, Dominique Roco, Michelle Vito and Janus del Prado. They all contributed sa ikagaganda ng buong pelikula. I’m also glad that it gives importance to popular warnings in our culture, as shown in the superstitious beliefs that were defied in the story. Hindi man tayo naniniwala sa beliefs na yan, there’s no harm in listening to such warnings for our own safety, like making pagpag muna before you go home from a wake. Humanda na kayong tumili ng ubos-lakas when you watch ‘Pagpag’. Ako nga, tili ng tili, e,” she laughs.
Lead star Kathryn Bernardo herself says she believes in pagpag. “Galing kasi kami ni Daniel sa wake scene in Pililla, hindi kami nagpagpag,” she says. “When I got home, naligo ako, I used the blower and turned it off. But noong nakahiga na ko, biglang nag-on yung blower by itself. I texted Daniel about it and he said may nangyari rin sa kanyang ganoon at the same time.”
“Nasa bahay ako, parang may gumagaya sa sipol ng kaibigan ko,” says Daniel. “Sisipol ‘yung kaibigan ko, tapos biglang may gumagaya. Nung sumipol uli yung friend ko, may gumaya na naman. Sabi niya sa akin, ‘Narinig mo ‘yon?’ Ako naman, ‘Hindi, wala akong narinig.’ Sumipol talaga siya uli at sabi niya, ‘Tingnan mo ‘to…’ Sumipol siya. Tapos, sa gitna naming dalawa, ginaya ‘yung sipol! Weird, di ba? Hindi naman kami tumakbo kasi ayaw naming mag-panic sila sa bahay. Doon sa movie, more or less, ganito ang nangyari sa’min ng barkada ko. Hindi kami nakiniig sa mga pamahiin, so ayun, may mga nangyaring masama sa amin. But worse, kasi namatay yung iba.”
