The irony of it is that she’s helping a foundation at East Avenue Medical Center on breast cancer awareness since 2005 and here she is now afflicted with the disease. “Masakit but I’ve learned to accept it and be strong with the help of my faith in the Lord,” she says. “I can feel naman na gumagaling ako kaya tatapusin ko yung treatment. I have to be strong kasi ang anak ko, si Carlo, is just 13 years old, so kailangan ko talagang labanan itong enemy ko for him. I want to maintain a very positive attitude about it. Life goes on at ayokong dahil sa cancer, matigil ang daloy ng buhay ko. Very supportive ang buong family ko sa amin, including our mom and my sister, Melissa Mendez. I have another sister who’s also a breast cancer survivor at four years na siyang magaling, kaya alam kong makakaya ko ito, kakayanin ko ito. Ipinagdarasal ko ngang wala na sanang ibang babae in our family who’ll also get afflicted with the disease kasi napakahirap ng sakit na ito.”
She could have stopped working but she did not. “I’m really grateful to GMA-7 and our director, Laurice Guillen, at lahat ng kasama ko sa show kasi very supportive sila. Even if they knew nagkasakit ako, hindi inalis yung character ko sa show kaya nagte-taping pa rin ako. Acting is part of my therapy. Kung mababakante ako, lalo lang akong magkakasakit so I prefer to be busy.”
Glenda and everyone in the cast of “Akin Pa Rin ang Bukas” are now all celebrating because their show is now number one in GMA-7 according to AGB Nielsen ratings for Mega-Manila. Viewers seem to have become more engrossed in the story when Lovi Poe’s character came back with a vengeance, totally transformed and no longer the api-apihan Lovelia she was before but now ready to fight and punish all the people who oppressed her. This week, Lovi will succumb to the charms of Rocco Nacino as Jerry when he kisses her. Cesar Montano as Conrad and Charee Pineda as Agatha saw this and both get jealous. Things get worse when Charee ordered someone to kill Lovi but ends up shooting Liza Lorena instead. Liza ends up in coma in the hospital. Cesar warns Lovi to be extra careful as someone seems bent on liquidating her.
