The year started with a controversy involving Maricel Soriano and Gerald Anderson. They’re supposed to play mother and son in the soap “Bukas na Lang Kita Mamahalin”. Then suddenly, there was news that Maricel is leaving the show after getting so mad at Gerald. She was eventually replaced by Dawn Zulueta. We heard some versions of what really happened behind the scenes but no one confirmed which one is the gospel truth so the reasons will forever remain as speculations.
2. Sarah Lahbati declared war against GMA Films Pres. Annette G. Abrogar
Another controversy involved Starstruck V female winner Sarah Lahbati who was successfully launched by GMA-7 in “Kokak”. But Sarah is obviously not satisfied and rebelled against what she says is the pressure for her to sign a contract not only with GMA Artist Center but also a company called Icons. She declared war against GMA Films Pres. Annette G. Abrogar and filed cases in court, some of which are still ongoing. She went to Switzerland, ostensibly to study, but the rumor is that she got pregnant by Richard Gutierrez and had a baby. They never confirmed or deny this. Sarah is back in town and remains to be a part of GMA Artist Center.
3. Kris Aquino and ex-husband James Yap had an ugly encounter in court
Kris Aquino and ex-husband James Yap had an ugly encounter in court over visitation rights on their son James Jr. aka Bimby , with Kris even accusing James of trying to force himself on her and so she even filed a protection order against him. Kris said she will resign from all her shows with ABS-CBN to devote all her time to her sons, but everyone predicted, this would never happen. And it never did.

Sen. Chiz Escudero was denounced by Heart Evangelista’s parents for trying to alienate their daughter from them. Heart’s parents even held press conferences about this, but Sen. Chiz wisely never answered back. Heart eventually succeeded in declaring her independence from her parents, especially her mom who used to manage her. She has reconciled with her parents but they still cannot accept Chiz as their future son in law.

Singer-composer Freddie Aguilar earned the ire of moralists when he flaunted his romance with a 16-year old girl who can very well be his granddaughter. Some camps even sued him for immorality but this never prospered. He eventually converted to Islam and married the girl in Muslim rites.

The most scandalous controversy involving both showbiz and politics is that of Janet Napoles, who’s pinpointed as the woman who is in cahoots with politicians in turning their PDAF or pork barrel meant for NGO’s into cash that goes to their own pockets. Her immortal lines are “Hindi ko po alam. Hindi ko po natatandaan. I don’t want to incriminate myself.” Three top senators implicated here are Sens. Juan Ponce Enrile, Bong Revilla and Jinggoy Estrada.

A controversy involving a mother and son is that of Rosanna Roces who had a fight win son Onyok right on Good Friday. They traded barbs and called each other’s name in Facebook. Things didn’t go well for Osang this year as she also in the breach of contract case filed by GMA Network against her and the court told her to pay the damages amounting to about P1 million.
12. Manny Pacquiao was quickly hounded by the BIR
After winning in his match against Brandon Rios, Manny Pacquiao was quickly hounded by the BIR for not paying his taxes properly.
RECONCILIATIONS: Those who kissed and made up this year include sisters Ara Mina and Cristine Reyes, who had a bitter fight due to domestic problems that even caused Ara to file a case in court against Cristine. But all’s well that ends well for the two sisters.
Annabelle Rama reconciled with two of her foes. First was with Nadia Montenegro whose daughters she used to manage, then with writer Chito Alcid who got afflicted with the big C and soon departed after they patched things up.
