SOPHIE ALBERT, Chanel Morales and Stephanie Rowe, discoveries of “Artista Academy”, and newcomer Danielle Lee (younger sister of TV5 host Divine Lee) will be launched next year in TV5’s adaptation of “Pretty Little Liars”, a drama series shown on ABC Family in the U.S. that was based on a series of novels of the same title by Sarah Shepard. The novels first came out in 2006 and the TV series started in 2010. Both are big hits and TV5 is now producing the Tagalog version with the supervision of Warner Bros., it’s producer in the U.S.
The series is about four teen high school girls who share a secret and the story concerns bullying, peer pressure, underage drinking, drug addiction and murder. If it’s given the right treatment, we have no doubt it will also be a hit locally. The local show will be directed by Mac Alejandre who’s now helming “For Love or Money”.
TV5 will be focusing on talent development in 2014 so they’re giving these four talented girls a big break in “Pretty Little Liars”, which is just one of the new shows that was presented to the press by TV5 exec Wilma Galvante who officially announced all their plans for 2014. They’re the first top network to bare their new year plans. Ms. Galvante says they’ll offer vertical programming of alternative shows each day compared to the horizontal programming of their rival networks whose primetime blocks have nothing but soaps each weeknight.
For the first quarter of 2014, Sharon Cuneta’s “Madame Chairman” and Aga Muhlach’s “Let’s Ask Pilipinas” will both have their second seasons from January to March because they both rate well and continue to pick up. Sharon’s show will have additional guest stars and will be subtitled “My Pirated Family”. Aside from this, she’ll have another show, a drama anthology, “Minamahal”, featuring different stories each week. Two hit Koreanovelas will be adapted into Tagalog: “The Baker King” and “My Fair Lady”. Then a new original drama series will be shown on Thursday night, “Obsession” starring Bianca King, Marvin Agustin, Neri Naig and Martin Escudero, helmed by Jay Altarejos. Jasmine Curtis Smith will also have her own self-titled drama series centering on a stalker who follows her every move.
For the second quarter of 2014, the new shows include “One of the Boys” with Eula Caballero as a lady taxi driver, “Beki Boxer” with Alwyn Uytingco as a champion boxer who happens to be gay, “My Brother’s Keeper” with Aga Muhlach and Derek Ramsay as brothers caught in a sibling rivalry of epic proportions, the search for “Asia’s Next Top Model” to be hosted by Joey Mead, the new season of “Talentadong Pinoy” and “Million Peso Money Drop”, “The Amazing Race Philippines 2: Biyaheng Asia” hosted once again by Derek Ramsay, the comedy “Confessions of a Torpe” with Ogie Alcasid as a 40-year old virgin supported by Mark Neuman, and a musical-drama, “Trenderas”, about tinderas who go trending in social media because of their singing talents posted on you tube, starring the girl called Suklay Diva of AKA Jam, singer-composer Lara Maigue and former child star turned singer Isabella de Leon, supported by Sheryl Cruz, Tina Paner and Ms. Nora Aunor.
New game shows will be introduced: “The Noise”, an adaptation of a Japanese game show that will replace “Killer Karaoke” and “Celebrity Dance Battle” hosted by Lucy Torres-Gomez. Tuesdays will be movie nights for new movies made for TV in “Studio 5’s 2014 Original Collection”. 16 movies are already in the can like “When I Fall in Love” with Guy and Pip, “The Lady Next Door” with Alice Dixson and Mark Neuman, “Bawat Sandali” with Derek Ramsay and Angel Aquino, “Dementia” with Nora Aunor, “After All”, “Halik sa Dilim” “Bonggangsters” and many more.
Watch out for all these shows in 2014. Meantime, the PBA Games will continue to be aired on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Next time, we’ll write about the new shows of the TV5 news department as bared by their head, Luchi Cruz Valdes.
