IZA CALZADO looks so slim and fit when presented to the press as host of “The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles”, along with Matteo Guidicelli and Robi Domingo as challenge masters, and Toni and Jim Saret as fitness coaches. It starts airing on Monday after “Legal Wife” with 14 pairs of overweight Filipinos on a quest to change their lives.
“This is my biggest hosting job so far and I’d like to thank Tito Boy Abunda for giving us nina Matteo a two-day workshop where he gave us pointers about hosting,” says Iza. “I can relate to the contestants as I was once very fat myself, as will be shown in the story of my life to be aired in ‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’ this Saturday night. Tinatawag akong baboy noong bata ako.”
Is it true she’ll replace Anne Curtis as host of “Showtime” when Anne becomes busy taping “Dyesebel”? “Wala pang official confirmation, but I’ll be guest host there this Saturday. Naalis din ako sa ‘Sana Bukas Pa ang Kahapon’ as I’ll focus muna on ‘Biggest Loser’ and the movie I did with Piolo Pascual, ‘Starting Over Again’ that opens on February 12.”
The first pair of contestants in “Biggest Loser Doubles” are brothers Ralph and Christian, successful businessmen in their 20s who joined “Biggest Loser” for people they work with to respect them and take them more seriously. Sisters Tin and Dianne, on the other hand, are both pretty and charming, but claim they have never had a boyfriend because of their obesity. Married couple Carl and Kayen made a promise to each other not only to lose weight but also to become a better spouse for each other and better parents to their 3-year-old son. Siblings Bryan and Ikya’s way of bonding with each other is through eating. They believe that they started gaining weight when a doctor gave them “pampagana” medicines as kids.
Both from Cebu, the "happy and gay" Bien and his girl BFF Mai work in a call center for three years and instantly became friends because of their huge appetite for fun, food and alcohol. Tristan and Jepoy have been friends for more than 20 years since high school. In Tanza, Cavite where they live, they’re the heaviest in their barkada. Cousins Lovely and Carol have been witnesses to each other’s tragedies in life. Now they are on both on a quest to regain their health back for themselves and for their families. For twins Chrisfer and Chesfer, their goal now is to get fit, a promise they made to their father before he left them at an early age due to obesity.
Both from well-known showbiz families, Pat is the daughter of Yayo Aguila and William Martinez, while Cathy comes from the showbiz clan of the Revillas. They have never met each other and are one of the “stranger pairs” in this edition. Cherry and Randall have been best friends since their college days in UST as members of the Salinggawi Dance Troupe. After they graduated from college, both gained so much weight. Benzi and Ysai became friends while competing with each other in a beauty pageant called Bilbiling Mandaluyong, a pageant for fat women where Benzi won the title and Ysai was first runner-up.
Francis and Andrew, the show’s second stranger pair, both have their families as their inspiration. The mother and daughter team here is composed of Mommy Osie and daughter Nina. Then there’s Biggie and Valerie. Biggie turned to drugs to lose weight, until his girlfriend Valerie learned about it. They now continue to build their relationship and are ready for a second chance in life.
In the first week of “Biggest Loser Doubles,” the 14 pairs will go through pre-camp, the first part of the competition where they will be asked to lose weight on their own, for 30 days. They will then meet and weigh themselves on the "Timbangan ng Bayan," which will determine which of the pairs lost the highest percentage of their total weight and enter the “Biggest Loser Doubles” camp. Inside the camp, each pair is expected to do everything it takes to stay in competition and encourage each other to lose weight — a twist that will also test their relationship as relatives or friends and will show that in having a partner, the journey to a better life will be lighter. Watch them change not only their bodies, but also their lives as they compete to win P1 million, appliance showcase, P100,000 worth of Toby sports merchandise, lifetime Gold’s gym membership and a kitchen showcase.
