Kim Chiu Starts 2014 With A Bang On TV And The Big Screen

KIM CHIU starts 2014 with a bang. She headlines Star Cinema’s first offering with the rom-com, “Bride for Rent”, and it’s just been announced that she’s been chosen by ABS-CBN bosses to play the role of the latest incarnation of the country’s best known mermaid, “Dyesebel”.

“I really feel so blessed po dahil ang ganda nga ng pasok ng taon para sa akin,” she says. “Sana nga, magtuloy-tuloy.”

In “Bride for Rent”, she plays the role of Rocky, a poor girl who applies for an unusual job, that of Xian Lim’s fake wife. The movie shows Kim hilariously joining some applicants auditioning for the position and how she gets the job. Xian has to present a wife to his wealthy grandmother, played by Pilita Corrales, who requires that he be a married man, for him to be able to get his “mana” or inheritance.

So Kim and Xian have to act like a real married couple when Lola Pilita is around but behind her, they are always fighting. But in this kind of romantic vehicle, it’s easy to conclude that, by the film’s conclusion, they will really fall in love and end up in each other’s arms. A movie like this was already filmed in the 50s by LVN Pictures entitled “Hiram na Asawa”, but with Star Cinema producing this new version, we have no doubt the story will be updated for today’s generation of viewers.

“Bride for Rent” is directed by Mae Cruz whose last rom-com was the third topgrosssing movie of 2013, “She’s the One” with Dingdong Dantes and Bea Alonzo. This is a followup to the Kim-Xian love team’s hit movie last year, “Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo”, which was 2013’s fourth topgrossing movie. The first two are “It Takes a Man and a Woman” and “Four Sisters & a Wedding”. Also in the cast of “Bride for Rent” are Tirso Cruz III, Martin del Rosario, Empoy Marquez, Matt Evans, Zeppi Borromeo and Lloyd Zaragoza.

And what can Kim say about those who claim she’s not fit to be “Dyesebel” because she’s so thin she’d look like a “dilis”? “Sana, bago nila husgahan, panoorin muna nila,” she says. “Wala pa nga, nagja-judge na sila. Hintayin muna nila.”
