MARTIN NIEVERA praised Regine Velasquez to high heavens during the presscon for their Valentine concert, “Voices of Love”. “She’s my favorite singer and my favorite person, a great daughter, wife and mother,” he says. “Singing with her can be threatening as she can sing her ass off, but she’s very giving. Lumelevel siya sa ka-duet niya. She’s a good player who can adjust to her co-singers. You can see that in her posts in instagram. It’s not all about herself. She has remained humble all these years. Her husband Ogie (Alcasid) is one lucky and blessed man. Before, type ko siya, but she’s more like a sister to me, so it never evolved. But when we’re singing together, you’d think in love kami sa isa’t isa. Singing with her can be a challenge and I’m now prepared to be challenged again in our ‘Voices of Love’ Valentine concert.”
So what can Regine say about this? “Martin is like my mentor. Siya ang first big star I sang with in ‘Penthouse Live’ when I was starting my career. He’s my crush, my idol, sobrang galing, so it’s always a pleasure to sing with him. Malaki talaga ang naitulong niya sa career ko. I learned a lot from him. He’s already a huge star then at ako, baguhan lang. He’s always been a good friend to me, Ogie and Nate. What’s nice about him is that, pag may problema siya, he carries it well. He might be going through some hard stuff in life, but you won’t feel it kasi he doesn’t bother us with his personal problems. When we were touring in the States, kung ano-anong binibigay niya sa akin. He’s such a giver, even as a singer. Malaman lang niyang may concert ka, siya pa magbo-volunteer, guest ako diyan, ha. So namana ko yun sa kanya. When younger singers would have a concert at pinapa-guest ako, pumapayag ako agad as it’s our way of paying back.”
“Voices of Love” will be held on February 14, 8 PM, at the SM MOA Arena.
