TV5’S ENTERTAINMENT head Wilma Galvante proudly announced another vertical programming innovation on their Tuesday primetime slot: “Studio 5 Original Movies”. “It’s not easy to break the viewing habits of TV audiences,” she says at its launch at Ali Mall. “At sino ba ang binabangga namin? Mga mabibigat, di ba? But we’re confident that when you offer good content, people will notice. This is what happened on our Thursday slot, where we offered once a week dramas like ‘For Love or Money’ and now, ‘Obsession’. So on Tuesdays, we now offer ‘Studio 5 Original Movies’. Parang malalaking pelikula talaga ang pagkakagawa rito.”
They’ll start on February 4 with “The Lady Next Door”, a May-December affair between Alice Dixson, a lonely newscaster vacationing in a beach resort, who meets Artista Academy discovery Mark Neumann (who’s being officially introduced here), a balikbayan teener from the U.S. who’s rebelling from the breakup of his parents’ marriage.
On Febuary 11, they’ll have a special Valentine presentation. It was previewed for the press and we’re sure avid Guy and Pip fans will be very pleased. It establishes the Nora-Tirso tandem as the most enduring love team in the history of local cinema. It's very well acted by the whole cast, including Nadine Samonte, Marc Abaya and Felix Roco as their problematic kids. Tirso plays a doctor who's dying and Nora is his loyal wife who’s ever so devoted despite his faults. Bodie Cruz and Krysha Viaje are both splendid as the young Tirso and Nora in the flashback scenes. Don't miss this tearjerker. Also promising based on their trailers are 'The Replacement Bride' with Jasmine Curtis Smith (I just so love this girl who shows so much promise) & Daniel Matsunaga in an endearing romantic comedy about a girl who makes a mistake on someone else’s wedding day, and the drama-thriller 'Sa Bawat Sandali' with Derek Ramsay, Yul Servo and a very beautiful Angel Aquino as the unfaithful wife who thought she killed her lover, Derek.
