Ogie Alcasid Pays Tribute To Lorna Tolentino, Susan Roces & Zsa Zsa Padilla In His Valentine Concert

OGIE ALCASID will pay tribute to actresses who have become single again like Susan Roces, Lorna Tolentino and Zsa Zsa Padilla, the widows of the late Fernando Poe, Jr., Rudy Fernandez and Dolphy, in his Valentine show, “Samahang Walang Ka-Valentine” at Music Museum on February 13, 14 & 15. For Lorna T, I will sing daw ‘Pangako’, for Zsa Zsa, ‘Through the Years’, but for Tita Swanie, hindi ko pa alam. I’m thinking of ‘Doon Lang’ na favorite kantahin ni FPJ, pero may nagsasabi naman dapat ‘Ang Daigdig Ko’y Ikaw’ dahil yun ang theme song nila. Siguro I will ask Sen. Grace Poe about it.”

He and his musical director, Ryan Cayabyab, is preparing a lot of sentimental songs for viewers who will go to the show without a partner. “Yun ang market namin, e. Yung mga walang ka-Valentine para makapag-senti sila. Kami ni Mr. C, naiyak kami while rehearsing ‘Something New in My Life’ and ‘Terminal’, kasi ang gaganda ng kanta at nakakaiyak pala lyrics noon. We will have a suite of George Canseco, Willy Cruz and Rey Valera love songs, tapos songs of Louie Ocampo and Michel Legrand, then my own songs like ‘Nandito Ako’, ‘Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang’ and ‘Kailangan Kita’. All sad songs, pero ang ending namin, ‘I Will Survive’. Kahit magdaan ka sa malulungkot na karanasan, yun ang importante, that you survive all through it.”

Ogie says it’s not true that his musical show with Sharon Cuneta on TV5, “The Mega and The Songwriter”, has been axed. “Magte-taping na kami uli ng bagong episodes so abangan nyo kasi mas pagagandahin namin ang show. I’ve also started taping for my new tawaserye, ‘Confessions of a Torpe’, na siya ipapalit sa ‘Madam Chairman’.”

So “The Gift”, which he also started taping, is now shelved. “Kasi masyado raw malungkot dahil pilot week pa lang, ang dami nang napatay. E, they want something light because of the tone set by ‘Madam Chairman’, so tawaserye rin ang ipapalit as an alternative to the drama being shown on prime time. Kasama ko rito sina Alice Dixson, Gelli de Belen, Bibeth Orteza, Mark Neumann, Shaira Mae, Bayani Agbayani, Jojo Alejar, directed by Soxy Topacio. I play a man in mid-life na virgin pa rin dahil sa katorpehan. Abangan nyo. It’s a lot of fun.”
