REGINE VELASQUEZ didn’t charge anything when she was asked to sing the theme song or PLDT Smart Foundation’s Gabay Guro tribute to teachers, “Believing In Me”. It was composed by her sister Cacai with husband Raul Mitra, who also did it for free, upon the invitation of Chaye Cabal-Revilla, Gabay Guro Chairman and 2013 Ten Outstanding Young Men awardee.
“It is really nice of them to do this beautiful song that sums up pretty much all that we have to say about our teachers,” says Chaye.
“And we really want to thank Chaye for this project that honors teachers, our unsung heroes,” says Regine. “I’m very happy to be given this chance of paying tribute to them. I owe a lot to my teachers in Mababang Paaralan ng Balagtas, Bulacan. Sila ang unang nagsali sa akin sa mga singing contest. They really inspired me and it was a fun experience.”
Last year, Gabay Guro held a tribute event at SM MOA Arena and 30,000 teachers from all over the country attended the affair. In
December, they went to Bohol with Cesar Montano to turn over several classrooms in school in Loay, Cortes and Tagbilaran that were destroyed by the recent earthquake.
For this year, they will donate new classrooms in Easter Visayas wrecked by typhoon Yolanda. Eight classrooms will be donated to Tacloban and Palo, Leyte and later, in Ormoc and Samar.
PLDT-TV5 Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan supports Gabay Guro, a program run by volunteer executives from PLDT Manager’s Club Inc. (PLDT MCI) led by Bong Cadiz, Gil Garcia, Francis Bautista, Gary Dujali and Butch Meily.
“I speak in behalf of all the volunteers behind Gabay Guro. We are so affected by the plight of our kababayans and we are all committed in helping rebuild not just their classrooms but also their lives. We vow never to stop, to the best of our abilities, to bring service to our fellow Filipinos wherever we can”, says Chaye.
